It’s officially spooky season in Gielinor, and this year’s Halloween event is all trick, no treats! Henja and Angel have been entrusted with a massive bowl of sweets to hand out to trick-or-treaters, and they get to keep whatever’s left at the end of the night. Naturally, their mischieveous minds start cooking up a plan… Why hand out any sweets when you could keep all of them? Will you help them with their candy-fueled mischief to protect their precious stash?

To kick off this year’s Halloween Event, talk to either Angel or Henja in Rimmington and get those shenanigans started!

Sand Stakes is a RuneScape staking community with one big difference: every fight happens on its own OSRS server, built only for staking. Both fighters get identical gear, special attacks are switched off, and every single hit is decided by provably fair seeds that are locked in before anyone bets. Nobody can rig a fight – not a host, not a caller, not even the people who run it. Every fight is livestreamed, and once it is over you can re-check every hit yourself.

EXCLUSIVE FOR OUR READERS
Free [BONUSAMOUNT] freestake – no deposit needed
Join the Discord (https://discord.gg/UZSTDTupAD), verify, then go to #redeem-code, press Redeem a code and enter [BONUSCODE]. Win your free bet and the profit is yours to cash out.
Join Sand Stakes & claim it: https://discord.gg/UZSTDTupAD

What makes Sand Stakes different

Staking has always come down to one question: can you trust the host? Sand Stakes takes that question off the table.

Its own OSRS staking server – fights do not happen in someone else’s world, where a host can play tricks. Both fighters get the same gear, and specs are off.

Provably fair – the outcome of every hit is decided by seeds that are locked in before the first bet, so it cannot be changed after money goes in.

Every fight livestreamed – watch it on stream, and follow every hit live in Discord as it lands.

A clip of every fight – posted automatically, so nothing happens off camera.

Fight can’t finish? Every stake on it is refunded automatically.

Provably fair, in three steps

Locked – before the first bet, each fight’s seed is locked in and its fingerprint (hash) is published.

Mixed – bettors’ own seeds are mixed in (you can even set your own), so nobody can know the result before betting closes. Not even Sand Stakes.

Proven – after the fight the seed is revealed, and anyone can re-run every hit with the open verifier.

👀 Don’t take our word for it – join the Discord (https://discord.gg/UZSTDTupAD) and watch a fight live, then check every hit yourself.

How a stake works

Get a balance. Deposit in 07 gold, RS3 gold or crypto. Gold goes through a cashier who meets you in game; crypto is fully automatic – you get your own address and the money lands by itself.

Pick a fight. Each weapon has its own channel. Hosts post “NAME is OPEN” when they are ready, along with their recent results.

Back a host. Press Add Stake on their post and type your amount – or back the challenger instead once the fight is taking bets.

Watch and get paid. Follow the fight live. A win pays 1.9x your stake, straight into your wallet, the moment the fight ends.

Pick your weapon

Fight – What both fighters use

Boxing: Bare hands – the classic

Whip: Abyssal tentacle (a whip)

Claws: Dragon claws (no specs)

Magic: Fire Surge

Twisted Bow: Twisted bow and dragon arrows

Three ways to play

Back a fighter – stake on a real host or one of the house bots.

PvB – fight one of the bots yourself.

PvP – challenge another player directly.

Payouts

Stake (07) – A win pays

Under 2.505B: 1.9x – 100M returns 190M

2.505B and up: 1.8x

10B and up: 1.7x

PvP (player vs player): 1.8x

RS3 and USD stakes follow the same tiers at their own sizes.

⚔️ Place your first stake – join the Discord: https://discord.gg/UZSTDTupAD

Deposits and withdrawals

– OSRS and RS3 gold – through a cashier, in game. 100M in is 100M in your wallet. – Crypto, fully automatic – BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL, USDT, USDC and BNB, in and out. Smaller withdrawals go out instantly. – One wallet for everything – hold 07, RS3 and USD, and swap between them whenever you like.

Quick answers

Can a fight be rigged?
No. Every hit comes from seeds that are locked in before betting opens and revealed afterwards, and you can replay any finished fight to check it yourself.

What is a freestake?
A free bet. Win it and the profit is real money in your wallet – a 10M freestake at 1.9x pays 9M. Lose it and only the free credit is gone.

Do I need to download anything to bet?
No. Everything happens in the Discord, and you watch the fights on stream.

How do I get started?
Join the Discord (https://discord.gg/UZSTDTupAD), verify, and claim your free freestake with code [BONUSCODE].

In case you missed RuneFest’s big reveal, you read that right: The Fractured Archive is coming this month. It’s nearly time to gather your allies, gear up, and descend deep beneath Lumbridge into the Fractured Archive, built to house the most precious (or perhaps most dangerous) artefacts of Guthix’s personal collection.

Fret not, we’re here today to clue you in on everything you need to know for release! While we’re not going to talk about specific bosses or mechanics, we’ll talk at length about systems like grouping, death/wipe mechanics, resupplies, and more so that your head-scratching is reserved for learning the encounters rather than the systems.

Raid Launch Watch Party

If you’re not able to get a squad together, not quite ready to tackle the raid, or just can’t make it on release day, then we’ve got you covered!

Join Mod Ayiza and Mod Kieren on our Twitch channel on release day for a big ol’ watch party! We know that creators all over will be streaming their progress in their bids to be the first group to clear the raid and wholeheartedly encourage you to check them out on release, but for those of you wanting to kick back or who struggle to keep up with who’s furthest progressed or who’s clutching up for their party, we’ll try our best to keep up for you and bring you as much of the action as we can.

This isn’t set to be a high-octane, ‘race to world first’ style esports broadcast, but instead a place for you to hang out, share in the hype, and hear from special guests throughout the day, including sitting down with team members who’ve been working tirelessly to bring The Fractured Archive to life and can’t wait to share their experiences with all of you.

So for those of you who can’t get your hands dirty on October 20th, grab a drink, put your feet up, and kick back with us as we celebrate the release, our creators, our team, and most importantly: our community!

Now for the adventurous among you who will be getting involved on-release, let’s get you prepped…

Setting the Scene & Getting There

During the events of While Guthix Sleeps, the mahjarrat Lucien’s meddling with the Stone of Jas has opened an ancient entrance to a cache of Guthix’s most prized possessions: the Fractured Archive.

Whispers of the archive have persisted through the ages, and the gods have taken notice of this accidental grand opening. Some have sent agents to plunder the archive and bolster their strength, while other interested parties have their own motivations for making this daring descent.

If even a single one of these artefacts were to fall into the wrong hands, it could spell Gielinor’s ruin, so it falls to you to defend the archive from those who would misuse it. Fortunately you are not alone, and the Alliance that you helped assemble during While Guthix Sleeps will join you in the depths to aid in your endeavours.

Upon login – assuming you’ve got While Guthix Sleeps completed – you’ll be greeted by a messenger, they’ll give you a note to help direct you to the action.

Make your way to where Lucien showed his hand, and seek the archive’s entrance on a cliff face near the entrance to the Guthixian Temple. Perhaps all of those scrolls you’ve been accumulating will come in handy! Keep in mind that the Archivist’s Folio is an untradeable reward that you’ll be able to obtain from the archive and charge with Ascension shards for teleports, so it won’t be long before you’ll be able to return in the blink of an eye.

The Lobby & Raid Setup

Just like with any good raid, you’ll need somewhere to group up, gear up, and assemble your team! The Alliance have helped clear out the space in front of the entrance and are beginning construction to turn it into a proper base of operations. Let’s run through the amenities.

On the chamber’s eastern side you’ll find a bank chest, the grouping board, and the record keeper. We’re going to assume that you’re familiar with a bank chest, so let’s take a look at the grouping board!

This is where you can make a party and accept applicants. If you’ve done any Tombs of Amascut or Theatre of Blood then this should look pretty familiar to you, but it’s worth mentioning the ability to enable or disable spectators using the eye icon at the top of the interface – that’s right, actual spectating will be available as a feature for The Fractured Archive, no more watching from the sidelines!

Moving to the west, you’ll find the strategy board, overseen by General Montoya. General Montoya’s overseeing the Alliance’s strategy for taking back control of the archive, so he’ll be able to give you a rundown of the plan and how you fit into all of it (we’ll go into more detail on this later on).

At the strategy board itself, you can look for specific raiding parties or recent raiding parties and spectate their efforts (assuming they didn’t opt to disable spectators when making their party), perhaps you can pick up a thing or two. We’ve got more to say on the spectate system later on: we’ve made some massive improvements to it for The Fractured Archive and we think you’ll enjoy it a lot more than ‘sad ghost conversations while my friends kill the Wardens’.

But wait, there’s more! We’ve all been stuck waiting for a party member who’s grabbing a drink or taking a quick break, so we figured we’d add an extra activity as a slightly more useful way to pass the time than running around in the same 3×3 grid of tiles.

In the south-west, the Alliance have uncovered the never-before-seen Ascension rocks. These can be mined to obtain Ascension shards passively – albeit slowly – in between raids, or at your leisure. It’s a reasonably low-intensity activity, but you’ll have to pay some attention – the roots wrapped around the rocks seem to move with a mind of their own and will occasionally retreat back into the ground while others surface. For those of you paying more attention, you’ll occasionally encounter sprites: magical amalgamations that aren’t quite solid, liquid, or gas, but will revert into Ascension shards when you interact with them.

Now that you’re in the right place, let’s get into the nitty gritty.

Scaling

The Fractured Archive scales between 2 to 8 players. We’d recommend 3 to 5 players, we’ve found that scales around here tend to feel the best, but wanted to accommodate players who want to dive into the raid in larger groups. Duo clears are tough but manageable once you know what you’re doing, and solo clears are very challenging.

While the scaling for solo players is more lenient than the likes of Theatre of Blood (set to 2 players, rather than 3), soloing the Fractured Archive is closer to soloing Theatre of Blood than the Chambers of Xeric in that it’s a challenge that we expect to take some time before you’d ever get comfortable doing it and might serve as an aspirational challenge for many.

We do appreciate that many of you reading this would like to see the raid scaled down to solo. Part of our vision here is to deliver more pinnacle group content – even though one of Old School’s biggest strengths is the ability to ‘stand alone, together’, we do believe there’s a place for prestigious and enjoyable content aimed at groups. Designing content to incorporate solo players specifically means that any mechanics relying on co-ordination between group members are watered-down considerably, and can often lead to either everybody just doing the same thing simultaneously, or one person doing the important things while everybody else sits around hitting the boss (e.g. Akkha), which is a dynamic we’ve tried really hard to avoid in The Fractured Archive.

Without saying too much, our recommended scale is based mostly on the encounter design. Plenty of rooms give different players opportunities to engage in distinct ways that all further the team’s progress. Too few and you might find yourself overwhelmed at times, too many and you might find yourself wanting to feel more consequential.

Ultimately our advice here is to play at whatever scale you find fun! If you really like the idea of duoing with your best mate, and really stick at learning it, then you’ll absolutely start racking up clears.

Death, Wipes & Spectating

On launch, if your team wipes then you’ll be removed from the Archive and find yourself back in the lobby with a gravestone nearby. Effectively the wipe system is identical to Theatre of Blood, but we’re using normal gravestones rather than a Death Storage.

We’d really like to keep the wipe system this way. We understand that the wipe system is part of what makes Theatre of Blood so daunting, but equally feel that a full raid wipe should feel more impactful than it often does in the Chambers of Xeric or Tombs or Amascut. One of our biggest reasons for this is that the Practice Mode for The Fractured Archive is far superior as a low-stakes learning tool compared to Entry Mode or low invocation runs in TOB or TOA respectively – we’ll chat in more detail about the Practice Mode momentarily.

That said, if it looks as though this decision is detracting from the intended experience for our target audience, then we do have backup approaches ready to allow for wipes but with severe penalties for unique chances and a harsher dwindling of your supplies than you’d see in some other raids.

At the very least for the raid’s launch, we think the team wipe system should help that feeling of a tense, challenging and competitive first clear – something we’ve not had in Old School for some time.

The post-death spectate system has undergone some huge improvements too! Rather than frowning in a cage or solemnly watching your remaining team members in your ghostly form, you’ll be able to click on the HP/party orbs to check out your team members’ POVs. This means you’ll be able to tune in to the action and follow their character, see their inventory, and party members can even helpfully ping inventory slots for them – you’d never misuse a ping system to make a teammate panic, right?

Raid Layout

Eagle-eyed readers might have already noticed the layout of the archive itself on the strategy board that we showed earlier in the blog, but let’s take a birds-eye look at the central chamber and explain how you’ll actually progress through the raid.

That’s a lot of doors!

The Fractured Archive features eight encounters. Every single raid will start with the Archive Guardian (it’s literally its job to guard the archive, after all) and end with… the final boss.

Between the entrance to the central chamber, and that ominous looking door at the far end, there’s a row of doors to your left and to your right. You’ll work your way towards the end of the chamber, but you can choose to tackle the left door or the right door on each row. This means that the middle three encounters are up to you.

We saw some chatter after some of the RuneFest panels/Q&As about this with some speculation about random bosses or needing to scout raids, so want to be clear that this is categorically not the case. The middle three bosses will always offer you the same choices, so the layout looks like:

The Archive Guardian, who will stop at nothing to defend its master’s archive.

Choose between the ferocious Bork (and the notably less ferocious Smorks) or Ezekiel, a justiciar of Saradomin who believes his ends always justify the means.

Choose between Dreadnoth the Jellied, the abominable result of a demonic ritual gone wrong, or a mysterious necromancer with a mastery over undeath.

Choose between Xarth, a Tormented Demon unlike any you’ve seen before, or the highly co-ordinated Dagon’hai Trio.

The final boss, a mysterious hooded figure… for now.

We’ve deliberately balanced these pairings so that they should be similar in intensity and always award the same number of total points towards reward contribution, so the key factors for your choices here come down to personal preference, perhaps the gear available to you and your party, or even just which option your current squad tends to find easier/faster.

We know that it’s likely a ‘meta’ route will form and are totally okay with that, but still want to give players the chance to switch things up to keep the raid feeling fresh! It’s also our suspicion that these ‘meta’ routes will still depend on a variety of factors like team size, the current scope of gear in the game (meaning new items added over time might make other paths slightly more efficient for your group), the current gear available to your party, or even the skill level of your current squad and their comfort with each of the bosses. Metas forming are totally fine by us, but we’re happy to give you more choice, more to discover, more to learn and ultimately more to master so that you can enjoy The Fractured Archive for as long as possible!

Of course all of them will eventually have their own Combat Achievements, so the completionists among you will have to get your reps in across the board rather than getting too comfortable with a familiar set of bosses.

There will be a points-based resupply during the raid, similar to the Helpful Spirit in TOA or the Supplies Chest at TOB, and your performance up until then does play a role – so do your best for your team in case people find themselves struggling for supplies. It’s worth noting that there’s no Overload or equivalent in this raid, nor will you be able to bank or deposit supplies during the raid, so plan accordingly!

Practice Mode

Like we’ve said many times, The Fractured Archive is tough, so we want to give you a way to get your reps in but take a different approach to the Entry Mode equivalents like we’ve done in the past.

To preface this segment: Practice Mode will not be available on release. We’ll activate this at some time following the launch, so that everybody has the same experience progressing for those prestigious early clears, rather than people playing through an easier version of the raid and witnessing all of the mechanics or bosses before those choosing to progress on the intended difficulty, which happened with Tombs of Amascut’s release.

Once activated, you’ll be able to use Practice Mode to attempt any boss and even any boss phase so long as you’ve encountered the boss/boss phase before. All of your supplies will be fully refunded, and you’ll be able to bring friends too. What this means is you can’t use Practice Mode to perfect the final boss before having ever set foot in the raid, instead you’ll need to progress up to your wall, then perhaps take some time out to really nail the parts you’ve gotten to so far (or practice the phase you’ve gotten up to that’s giving you so much trouble) and keep pushing deeper.

The aim here is for you to shore up what you know so that you can keep progressing via a stream of Rocky-style training arcs, but to ultimately keep you practicing at the intended difficulty, since it’s quite easy to build up bad habits or get the wrong idea in Entry Mode equivalents only to find yourself more-or-less learning from scratch once you graduate to the real thing.

Loot

Obviously we’re not going to dive heavily into specifics about weightings or unique chances here, but we wanted to provide some clarity on questions we saw with Tombs of Amascut’s release, so that you can dive into your first clears here with the full picture.

In case you’re out of the loop, here’s a rapidfire rundown of all of the unique rewards on offer! For a more detailed look, check out the Rewards Poll Blog from earlier this year.

Elemental Fragments, untradeable items that add +2 to your base max hit for their corresponding element. This means their additional damage will benefit from increases to Magic damage, and will be multiplied by Elemental Weaknesses. These have some dupe protection mechanics, so you shouldn’t find yourself in a scenario where you’ve got a bunch of fragments for one element.

The Archivist’s Folio, an untradeable teleport item allowing quick returns to the archive, left behind by archivists from long ago. You can charge this with Ascension shards at a very generous rate, so these teleports won’t be a pain to upkeep.

Ascension shards, a stackable resource used to charge the Archivist’s Folio and the Obligator, and to make Ascension bolts for the Ascension crossbows.

Zeal, an unlockable upgrade to the Piety prayer, adding an additional +5% Attack and Strength. The item to unlock this will be tradeable, but you’ll have to do something a little more interesting than just reading a piece of paper at a bank – perhaps the Record Keeper can help?

The Rondache, a tradeable shield which mitigates incoming Melee, Ranged and Magic damage by 2. The mitigated damage is stored as charges, which can be fired off without delay for a rapidfire Shield Bash.

Zorya’s Tome, a tradeable, two-handed book that fires off spells every three ticks. Its primary purpose is for its Special Attack, which imbues you with arcane energy to fire off rapid hits with increased damage and accuracy.

Ascension crossbows, tradeable, dual-wield crossbows that fire the new Ascension bolts (made using Ascension shards). These are effectively a raid-tier upgrade to the Toxic Blowpipe.

The Obligator, a ferocious Crush-based megarare. The Obligator rolls damage multiple times depending on how weak your target is to Crush relative to other Melee styles, meaning it hits consistently hard. It’s also able to slam through multiple enemies in a line, or lose its damage re-rolls and multi-target capabilities in exchange for faster attacks.

To reiterate what we said above, every boss ‘pairing’ awards the same number of points towards your loot, so no choice will have any impact on your chance at a unique from a particular raid, but other factors like your personal performance or setup may make some choices lead to more completions per hour.

Bosses with Adds will have damage dealt to these count towards your overall room contribution, however it isn’t implemented in a way that allows players to farm points by stalling out fights. Each room has a finite amount of contribution it can dish out, it’s just that your portion of the pie will count damage done to minions, meaning nobody feels like they’re missing out for helping the team manage the encounter – you shouldn’t feel bad for being a team player!

While uniques always remain the focus of raiding, we’re trying to have the regular loot here sit just below Theatre of Blood (since Theatre of Blood’s regular loot is very generous), but it’s difficult to account for the price of Ascension shards here since we can’t know where they’ll settle. If the dust settles and regular loot is far away from our aims then we can look to bring them more in line. We’re looking to be a touch more cautious and deliberate here after our learnings from TOA, where regular loot was so generous that some resources (e.g. Torstol seeds) are still struggling to recover from the impact that the raid had on them.

Limited Accounts

All the way back in January, we said that we’d planned to accommodate limited builds such that they could participate in this raid, since most restricted builds are able to engage with the other three raids in the game. We’d planned a number of proposals here, but ultimately weren’t comfortable navigating or delivering these changes ahead of launch with the time that we had. To be clear, these changes wouldn’t have been ‘just let players do the raid without the quest’ and would instead have involved revisiting some older quests on While Guthix Sleeps’ critical unlock path, rather than letting people bypass requirements.

We genuinely believe that Old School as a sandbox is richer when people are able to engage with more challenges that push their restrictions to their limits, so do want to revisit this conversation in future, but can’t point to exactly when.

We wholeheartedly apologise to those of you who’d been excited to take on The Fractured Archive and won’t be able to at release. Our focus will be on getting the raid into the best spot possible in the hopes that it’ll be the best it can be whenever we revisit these conversations.

Closing Thoughts From The Fractured Archive Team

It’s nearly time for all of you to take your tentative first steps into a forgotten and unfamiliar place. We genuinely cannot wait to see you take on The Fractured Archive, we’ve loved working on it and hope that it’s as special for you as it is for all of us.

We set out to make a tough piece of group content: tough to learn, fun to grind, plenty of room for mastery. You as a community have gotten pretty good at Old School over the years: it’s a night and day difference between Theatre of Blood’s release and now, we hope that The Fractured Archive scratches that same itch and gives you a run for your money on launch before you commit to optimising your runs forever more.

To take us out, here are some words from the team who’ve poured blood, sweat, tears, and a lot of coffee into this release!

“probably better than ToA”

After some pushing, we did manage to squeeze a sincere response out of him:

“This one has been cooking for a long while now, there’s high expectations.

Tombs of Amascut was basically my first really big project. It’s a good, solid raid and for some it’s even their favourite, but I don’t think ToA was my best work. I’d say I was still a little green back then and had a lot more room to grow.

Since then I’ve worked on Muspah, Vardorvis, Whisperer, Leviathan, Duke, All the Awakened boss variants, Sol Heredit, The Echo Bosses, Araxxor, Yama, and even Brutus. I’ve grown a lot over these projects and If I have taken at least one notable learning from every one of these to take to the future ones, then it should mean something great is brewing.

All that being said, I sincerely believe that The Fractured Archive is my favorite PvM encounter I’ll ever work on, and I hope it’s some of your favorite to play.”

“This project has been one of my favourites to work on so far, and I’m beyond excited to see people sink their teeth into it all. It’s not often we get to design something Guthix has been a part of physically creating, and designing architecture and a boss based on that fact alone was a once in a lifetime experience.

The entire Raid takes you on a familiar emotional journey to what you have felt up until this point in your player journey; goblins, dark mages, knights, demons and getting entangled with beings of greater power. Hitting these emotional beats in a more challenging context while keeping the balance of “impressive” and “old school” was such a fun design challenge. I hope the experience leaves a great impression on you all!”

Everyone on the team has poured so much passion and care into this project, and I think that really shows. Each boss has its own identity, personality, and rhythm, and it’s been amazing seeing everything come together.
So much work has gone into creating this experience for you all – hours of playtesting, discussion going way past the end of our work day, and countless tweaks and adjustments all to try and create a raid which lives up to your incredibly high expectations. While I do hope this raid delivers on all your hopes for challenging mechanics and exciting teamplay, more than anything it’s my hope that you get to create many memories with your friends here. Some of my fondest memories on OSRS have come from my friends and I doing stupid things mid-raid, so get your clipping software ready because you will be pking your pals a lot (I’d love to see these so tweet them at me), and above all enjoy having another piece of content where you can spend time with the people who make this game special for you.

I hope you enjoy the Archive, can’t wait to hear all of your thoughts.”

Did I help bring a one-of-a-kind artistic vision to life? Also no.

Have I written 15,666 words (and counting) about The Fractured Archive so far? Absolutely!

It’s been an absolute pleasure to get involved with all of you on this raid’s development, from the Rewards Primer back in March, to all of the discussion and back and forth with your feedback until we had a set of rewards locked in, to the blog you’ve just read and the future blogs for the release (and beyond).

The worst part about being involved on a project like The Fractured Archive is having to keep so much under wraps while the raid takes shape and grows ever closer to the final product. I can’t wait to see all of you making your own memories with friends in a genuinely special piece of content.

A Raid is about so much more than one PvM encounter after another. It’s our narrative team finding its place within the wider world of Gielinor. It’s our artists creating continuity between every room, character and animation, while using the environment itself to tell a story. It’s our audio team experimenting with new ways to breathe life into the voices that fill those spaces. And it’s our designers making sure every boss feels distinctive, mechanically engaging and suitably challenging.

Raids 4 could only have come together through the passion and collaboration of the entire Old School team, alongside the players who shared their feedback and helped guide us throughout the journey.

You’ve gotten very good at Old School since the days of Theatre of Blood’s release, but we sincerely hope that you’ll find plenty of challenges inside the archive. Above all else, we hope that you have fun playing the raid on release, and for years to come!

See you on October 20th, and good luck: you’ll need it!

Equipment

The Fractured Archives contains many unique bosses with a plethora of defensive attributes that can make deciding which styles to bring into the raid difficult. Most encounters feature enemies extremely weak to crush, but many are also susceptible to ranged attacks and elemental spells. Depending on which rooms you take, bosses have varying levels of defence reduction, which can make certain loadouts more effective than others.

Most bosses encountered in the raid are susceptible to crush damage in varying amounts. Specifically, the final boss Ocellus is extremely weak to crush and has multiple mechanics in close quarters during his final encounter. Other bosses, the Archive Guardian, Ezekiel, Bork, and Xarth are also particularly vulnerable to crush.

Some encounters benefit from the utility of keeping your target at a distance while also being susceptible to crossbows (heavy ranged), or the twisted bow due to their high Magic levels. The Archive Guardian, Bork and Smork, and Dreadnoth the Jellied, Xarth, and the Ocellus phase 1 & 2 all benefit from bringing a ranged option.

While most monsters have relatively high Magic defences, some of the demi-bosses have notable elemental weaknesses that can be exploited with a Harmonised Nightmare staff or twinflame staff with each spells respective elemental tome. There are also some unique mechanics across the raid that benefit from elemental spells or the ability to freeze enemies. The shadow is a decent general weapon but loses out on damage to the Twisted Bow and frequently the Toxic Blowpipe.

Archive Guardian

The first encounter, in the atrium of the raid, is the Archive Guardian.

Upon starting the fight, the Archive Guardian will levitate in the air, giving it the flying status; ranged, magic and halberds can damage it in this state. Once the first bar is depleted, it will crash into the ground, where it may also be attacked with melee.

Auto-attacks with ranged attacks, (targeting all players in front of it? other players should stand at a 90, not behind). You can step under him on the tick before he attacks so he slams the ground instead, stepping out will prevent damage (This is not consistent).

Attacking it will lower its shield bar; when fully depleted it will lower to the ground and become attackable with melee(think verzik web phase), damaging its main health bar.

Throughout the fight, the Archive Guardian will create mushroom spores around it, dealing 3-10 damage, inflicts poison and can make players weary, lowering their attack speed and preventing them from running. Running adjacent to a mushroom, then immediately two tiles away will pop it dealing no damage.

While grounded, after an initial 6 tick delay, the Archive Guardian will target the players’ locations with a tendril every 3 ticks. Tendrils will spawn one after another and attack on the same 3 tick cycle with the attack being a 3×3 AoE swipe around it, dealing moderate melee damage and attacking 3 times before disappearing. Players who are using melee should try to run in sync to avoid colliding with the surrounding tiles. Praying Protect from Melee reduces the maximum damage to 11. Tendrils always spawn on the side of you opposite the boss. If the boss is west of you, tendrils spawn east of you. If you start far away from the boss, you only need to move 1 tile towards the boss to avoid tendrils and prevent the room from being filled with them.

Around the room are four inert guardians, which can be charged by attacking them (some accessible by melee; others by range, earth spells weakness; last non-attackable, hit with beam). (Charging them: causes big damage to shield?) Charging does ~40% damage to shield (596 damage to 1490 health shield in 6-scale).

The Archive Guardian fires a beam at adventures, destroying the inert guardian behind them.

After reaching 30% health, the Guardian immediately begins flying and switches to alternating between Mushrooms and magic-based “laser” attack. It will no longer possess a shield and remain in this state for the remainder of the encounter.

The laser is indicated by the message The Archive Guardian stares intently at [player name]/[you]. It targets random player and deals fatal damage if there are more than 2 players alive and it is not reduced.

Its damage can be reduced by players standing on the same line as the target player.

Alternatively, the laser can be tick-eaten.

Magic prayer reduces damage slightly.

Inert Guardians can also be hit by the beam, dealing damage to his shield in this phase. However, once the boss is in kill range they stop dealing damage to the boss.

Weak to Heavy Ranged, 80% fire weakness, 20 Crush Defence

Vengeance does apply from melee hits from stepunders, the ranged rocks, tentacles and the laser. As a strat: the laser can be solo tanked at high HP with a tickeat and protect from magic disabled for maximum value. Vengeance Other can also be considered and whether to use it on the shield vs the boss’s actual HP. Phoenix Necklaces could be worn here during the tickeat using same logic as tickeat from Sotetseg’s Death Ball attack to heal without the use of brews/hard food.

Perfect dodges

Ezekiel’s Flying Swords and Lightning strikes can be perfectly dodged similar to Drakan’s attacks in The Blood Moon Rises – stand in the way of the attack, then move out of the way on the same tick as the attack. If you do this right, your character will dodge roll out of the attack. Against Ezekiel, perfectly dodging his attacks gives you 3% special attack energy each time, so there is some risk-reward for some extra special attacks if you can consistently execute this.

Flying Swords

After every two melee attacks, Ezekiel will perform a large cross-shaped AoE lightning attack centered on him (similar to Ba-ba’s shockwave), which will burst twice before disappearing.

After starting the lightning attack, he will spawn three to four swords

These can be perfectly dodged

The swords slowly charge a red bar, then fly in a straight line once full. They will charge at different rates if their trajectories would completely cover the arena.

Hitting the swords charges a yellow bar which increases their damage. They are resistant to ranged and very weak to air magic. Note that empowering the swords increases the damage they deal to both Ezekiel as well as to the player.

If Ezekiel’s is completely hit by a sword (ie, lined up with the exact path of a sword), he will take damage and be stunned for a few seconds. Otherwise, he will heal for a significant amount of HP. A successful block should result in him yelling “Argh!”

Tip: Stand in the path of a sword if it keeps Ezekiel positioned for a stun, and dodge out of the way once it flies out.

Upon reaching 33.3% of his health, Ezekiel will reposition himself to the central eastern section of the arena, dropping a large amount of swords that will force the player(s) into the remaining space.
It is highly recommended to bring powerful high cost spec weapons for this phase because of the special attack regen. The three dodges for the lightning pattern restore 9% special attack total and in combination with lightbearer special attacks can be repatedly used during this phase.

– Voidwaker

– Dragon Claws

Bork and the Smorks

Bork and the Smorks are a duo boss fight similar to that of the Royal Titans, consisting of two different entities.

Bork attacks with AoE-based melee, launching shockwaves around him. Additionally, he has 8 flat armour and 2 Magic resistance, meaning that all melee and ranged attacks are reduced by 8 and magic attacks by 2. Every 25% damage to the Smorks increases Bork’s flat armour by 2, up to a maximum of 14 flat armour.

Bork will target the first player who enters the arena, chasing after them. If his target is not within melee range he will generate a stronger beat on his first attack, which covers a larger area. The second attack will only affect the tiles immediately around him. Bork will periodically change aggression, indicated with him yelling Bork smash [player name] now.

The Smorks attack with both ranged and magic; ranged attacks are indicated with bones and magic attacks as a cluster of potions. These are launched on all players that are not focused by Bork. Alongside these attacks, the Smorks will launch incendiary and heavy cannonballs. The Smorks are static, in the centre of the arena and block Bork’s beats.

Incendiary cannonballs will deal heavy damage if caught in its AoE and leave behind splatters of oil, which if stepped on will deal 6-7 damage per tick and ignite the player, inflicting a burn that starts at 2 damage. If Bork is hit by one he will take moderate damage.

Bork is stunned after the Smorks launch a heavy cannonball at him.

Heavy cannonballs will be indicated with the Smorks yelling for Bork to avoid it. If the cannonball lands on Bork, he will become dazed, temporarily removing his damage reduction and all melee attacks on him are dealt as successful hits for a short time. The Bork tank should stand close enough to the rest of team to lure him into these cannonballs. After recovering, or if the cannonball did not hit him, Bork will stomp several times, indicated by Bork very angry! (if hit), Bork crush now. or Bork think it stomp time now! (if not hit) covering the entire arena. These can be avoided by hiding behind the Smorks’ cart.

As their health lowers, Bork will begin to beat his drum faster, subsequently causing both enemies’ attack speed to increase.

When one of the pair is killed, the other will become enraged and initiate the second half of the fight.

If Bork is killed first, the Smorks’ attack speed will significantly increase and their attacks will hit everyone in the arena. The damage from their auto-attacks are increased.

If the Smorks are killed first, Bork’s stomps will cover the entire arena.

It is highly recommended to kill Bork first, since the Smorks’ attacks are easier to handle.

She will start the fight by summoning several undead binders that stand evenly spaced in the arena, leaving one gap for players to start in.
Moia will periodically teleport to another side of her arena and launch a slow blue projectile that deals magic damage.
Occasionally she will target a player with a smoke cloud projectile that will infect them with a cough that deals intermittent poison damage, similar to Nex. The damage from this coughing is significantly mitigated by wearing a Serpentine helm (possibly antipoison; needs confirmation). The player hit by the virus should avoid standing next to other teammates or undead binders, as this will spread the virus and can deal immense damage over time.

If all binders are successfully defeated when the charge is up, she will spawn another set and continue charging subsequent attacks until she is defeated.

Players battle Dreadnoth the Jellied as it enters its enrage phase.

Dreadnoth moves slowly around the arena, around one tile every two ticks. He primarily attacks with melee, which will hit everyone around him, so it is recommended to range or mage him from afar. Dreadnoth is considered a demon, however he has low demonbane values. Additionally, he has 85% susceptibility to fire spells and 40% freeze resistance. The Scorching bow special attack can also be used to root him in place.

Once Dreadnoth reaches 85%, 65% and 45% of his max health he will do an arena-wide slam, followed by three ranged attacks. Ensure Protect from Melee is active for the slam, and Protect from Range is active for the projectiles. Each sequential slam will have an additional hit, up to three slams, with three ranged attacks between each. This will also spawn a lot of jellies that also attack with melee. These must be killed as soon as possible as they will drain prayer with each attack, even if blocked. Ice Barrage, Blood Barrage, or the Venator bow can be used to kill them quickly. In large groups, it is easier to stack together during this phase to ensure all jellies can be killed together.

When jellies die, and periodically through the fight, jelly will spawn on tiles. This will deal 6-8 damage per tick when stepped on.

When the boss reaches 25% health, he will announce *glub glub* and begin to jump towards and slam on a random player. This will do large amounts of damage and heal the boss (~30-40) if not avoided. If Protect from Melee is not active, players will take damage regardless of location. Following the slam, two projectiles; one ranged and one jelly splatter, will target the player, so it is important to keep moving. If there are any jellies still alive, if Dreadnoth jumps and slams on top of them, he absorbs them and heals as they combine.

On death, the boss will spawn around ten jellies. Once these jellies are killed, the encounter ends.

The fight consists of the team fighting an Dagon’hai Elder and two Dagon’hai Monks. Upon entering the arena, the elder will order the ritual to start while he deals with the interlopers, and the two monks will quickly scatter to the sides to research the tomes scattered across several desks.

The elder and monks share the same stats and health pool, so there is no advantage in focusing one of them down.

The elder attacks with ranged and magic; the ranged attacks consist of a grey projectile, while the magic attacks are surge spells. These attacks deal damage on impact and can be prayed against with slow reactions. He will focus on one player, and attack them and those nearby. By spreading out, other players will not be hit by his attacks.

Throughout the fight, both the elder and monks will attempt to finish the ritual. The monks may either attempt to siphon knowledge from the books into the cauldron in the centre of the arena, or channel a spell. The elder will only channel spells into the cauldron. The ritual’s progression is indicated with a yellow bar underneath the cauldron’s health bar, with each successful charge increasing its bar by 25%. If this fills completely, the Dagon’hai will empower themselves and all three will attack the team. This will likely result in a wipe, as the elder will attack all players in the arena with a barrage of empowered surge spells (with each attack consisting of two surges) that deal significant damage through prayer.

Elemental Channel: The elder or monk will yell one of the following, which is interrupted by casting the corresponding elemental spell on them. A yellow bar will appear over their shield bar, which indicates charge progression.

I’ll feed the flames!: Cast a fire spell on the elder or monk attempting to channel energy.

I’ll guide the flow!: Cast a water spell on the elder or monk attempting to channel energy.

I’ll focus the winds!: Cast an air spell on the elder or monk attempting to channel energy.

I’ll strengthen the bond!: Cast an earth spell on the elder or monk attempting to channel energy.

Tome Empowerment: One of the monks will yell a corresponding quote, and air gusts will appear indicating the tiles a player needs to stand on in order to block a projectile to which would cause one of three effects around the arena. Prior to this occurring, the monk will say What have we here?.

Bandos: The monk will yell Bandosian strength, feed the flame! If blocked, the player will be hit by the energy, dealing up to 55 damage and causing a shockwave that spreads out on an eight tile range from them. The shockwaves will not damage the player who took the hit, however it will hit other players multiple times if they improperly run out.

Zamorak: The monk will yell Zamorak empowers us! If blocked, the player will be hit by the energy, dealing ~25 damage and causing fireballs to launch in a 7×7 AoE around them, with one on the tile they were on. This also inflicts a burn starting at 3 damage. If not blocked, the cauldron will spew fireballs in a large area.

Saradomin: The monk will yell Saradominist zeal, feed the flame! If blocked, the player hit will be healed, causing blue and yellow shadows to appear around the arena, which summons lightning strikes after a short delay. Stepping on the yellow lightning strikes will restore health and prayer to players.

Once the health bar of the three enemies are fully depleted, the Dagon’hai will channel Zamorak’s energy to protect themselves and restore their shield gauge to full, which in turn causes the ritual’s stability to drop 20%. When this occurs, two portals will appear and drop three imps imps each into the arena. These imps attack with melee, with the damage being reduced with Protect from Melee. Players will always land successful and maximum hits on imps. Killing an imp buffs your next attack, although it is not clear how.[Explain]

After depleting the mages’ shield gauge the fifth time, the ritual will finally become unstable and the cauldron will explode, killing one of the monks instantly, while the elder and the remaining monk will be stunned. The elder will quickly recover, however the remaining enemies only have 7 hitpoints and are easily killed.

Players avoid the incoming explosion by hiding behind the pillars.

Xarth attacks exclusively with magic during this phase. His magic attacks will inflict a burn which can stack over time.

Unlike other Tormented Demons, Xarth does not have a shield to block incoming damage, however he does attack much faster. Upon reaching ~80%, ~65% and ~50% of his health, he will bind all players and launch two searing projectiles while charging up an explosive blast in the process. Once the projectile are launched, immediately hide behind the pillar to avoid damage from the blast. It is important that all members stand behind one pillar and path the same direction to it, as improper pathing and positioning can result in multiple pillars being destroyed, leaving them open to subsequent blasts.

Players freeze the incoming corpses to prevent them reaching Xarth.

Upon reaching 50% of his health, Xarth will initiate the second phase of the fight. He will launch several flames into the arena, serving as hazards that will deal damage and inflict burns if stepped on. He will no longer use magic attacks, instead swapping to ranged and melee, though he remains static in the centre of the arena.

Throughout the phase, he will additionally reanimate corpses (using his magic attack animation) from the edges of the arena that will approach him, similar to the sleepwalkers at The Nightmare. If allowed to reach him, they will heal him for their remaining health. Corpses can be frozen, or they may be attacked with water spells to douse them, making them easier to kill. Ice and water spells do not have any delay when used on corpses. Avoid using fire spells, as this will cause him to summon more corpses.

If the corpses heal Xarth for 200 health, he will respond with a large AoE blast across the entire arena, dealing heavy damage and inflicting a burn on them. The damage and burn dealt is lowered if team members are standing behind the first player to take the brunt of the blast.

It seems corpses are guaranteed to be frozen at roughly +33 (give or take, not exact) magic accuracy with augury active.

As Xarth’s health lowers, corpses will begin to spawn at a greater rate, however teams with two magers should not have any issue dealing with them.

There’s a way to reset Scythe cooldown whilst attacking, not sure how yet, do not know if its due to dodging attacks or intervals.

Ocellus spawns vines around him after each set of attacks in phase 1.

Ocellus will begin the fight by moving to each corner, attacking with ranged (orange) and magic (blue) projectiles. While walking to a quadrant, he will have Protect from Melee active. Once a quadrant is reached, he will summon seven tendrils, one at a time towards him. These tendrils will channel energy into him, which can be mitigated by standing on them. The player will take some damage but will be healed after stepping off the last tendril. After the seventh tendril, Ocellus will slam the area around him, covering a two tile range and dealing up to 35 damage if caught in one.

As Ocellus is considered demonic, it is possible to keep him rooted in place with scorching bow specials.

At 66% and 25% shield durability, Ocellus will teleport to the centre of the arena and spawn two tendrils in a clockwise direction, with the same two tile AoE blast after the second tendril. He will do this four times. After this attack is complete, he will charge up a powerful attack based on the energy he accumulated. If not enough tendrils were mitigated, he will announce Embrace… annihilation…, launching numerous projectiles that deal over 80+ damage in total, having a very high chance to kill players. If enough were mitigated, he will instead announce Death… awaits…, launching one projectile that deals 17-18 damage.

Once his shield is reduced to 0, Ocellus will teleport to the center of the arena and create 4 quadrants surrounded by orange and purple portals. Purple portals will spawn damaging attacks, while 2 orange portals will spawn on either side that intersect in a safe zone. After a few sets of attacks, purple damaging pools will spawn on the floor of the arena followed by an orange portal. This will allow players to teleport to a new quadrant and avoid the incoming barrage of attacks as the quadrant becomes unsafe.

The Blade stores all damage dealt during this phase and releases it at the end of each quadrant, effectively transferring half of all damage dealt to the boss’s phase 3 health bar.

Phase 3

Ocellus will destroy parts of the arena to create 4 diagonal quadrants separated by floating rocks that can be jumped across. He will begin pursuing a player chosen as the tank attacking with melee. If he is unable to reach the targeted player, he will attack with a powerful spread void shot dealing 20+ damage to each player.

https://www.runescapeguides.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Ocellus_step_under.mp4

The correct timing for stepping under and out of the Untether attack

At the start of this phase, as well as the following two quadrants, void pools will spawn underneath all players except for the tank, dealing periodic damage when stepped in. By clumping up all players on a single tile in a corner of the quadrant, these void pools are placed on the same tile, making it possible to only have Ocellus spawn 3 void pools across all quadrants. This leaves the floor much less cluttered, making it easier to focus on other aspects of the fight. It is recommended to coordinate with the team which order of tiles will be chosen for this strategy.

https://www.runescapeguides.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Ocellus_flicking.mp4

The correct timing for flicking melee attacks

The tank starts with 2nd orb order. Ocellus will swap tank when either the tank dies or next corner quadrant begins.

Ocellus’ attack pattern is 2 standard melee attacks followed by a directional wave attack that will travel across the arena. After 2 wave attacks, he will begin a charged blade attack, noted by a spinning purple portal opening underneath him. To protect against this attack, disable your overhead prayer and activate protect from melee prior to the attack being released.

Ocellus will occasionally shout The void… will take you… and root 1 player in place with a Void Vine that can only be attacked by another player. Failure to break the vine in time will deal upwards of 50 damage.

Ocellus will spawn Void Rifts, Void Augmenters or Void Siphons in each quadrant which, when defeated, will empower the player who kills it. Failure to kill them will damage all players. Void Siphons heal the player that kills it, Void Augmenters will boost your stats, (Void rifts max hit ?).

If Ocellus announces Insolence…, he will target 3 random players in series to send wide wave attacks similar to earlier wave attacks. However these are much larger and leave a lasting damaging field where they impact.

After a certain number of special attacks, Ocellus will Untether… and begin floating in the air and be unable to be reached by melee attacks. The entire ground will eventually erupt in a void attack, dealing 40+ damage. To avoid this, stand underneath the boss inside the purple lines. The border will glow brighter twice before the attack commences and Ocellus will slam inside this safe area, dealing a similar amount of damage. Time your escape on the final glow of the purple border to avoid both attacks simultaneously.

Once enough damage is reached, Ocellus will announce Obliteration… or Run… It matters not… and begin charging a blast that will destroy the quadrant. The player is killed if they do not jump via the gaps to another quadrant in time.

The four censers around the room become active during this phase. Interacting with them provides certain benefits:

Bandosian Censer – +Melee damage – Appears to make the next melee attack max hit. Using the Zaryte crossbow special attack with ruby bolts after the censer has been used increases its max hit to 121

Armadylean Censer – +Ranged damage – Appears to make next range attack max hit

Zarosian Censer – Special attack – 50% spec restore

Saradomin Censer – Healing – 50 healing and 50 prayer

Players take their final stand against Ocellus

Phase 4

When only one quadrant remains, Ocellus will say End… and use a different set of attacks while utilizing the Ancient Curses prayers. The attacks will follow the cycle described below:

Ocellus will rise into the air, turning all tiles below him and one tile away from him into void, and will begin to use the Deflect Melee prayer. Except for the start of this phase, Ocellus will additionally spawn Void Rifts that must be destroyed before they charge up to prevent potential damage.[confirmation needed]

Ocellus will perform an attack to all players (appears as a blue, wind-like attack above the player), dealing half of each player’s current health as damage, rounded down. A light blue orb will spawn on a safe tile in the quadrant, and walking into the orb will heal the player for the damage that was dealt.

Soon after the damage from step 2 is dealt, void particles will spin around every player, indicating that Ocellus will begin a void explosion attack. Every two ticks, a void explosion will begin at each player’s current tile and deal damage on the next tick, requiring players to constantly move to avoid damage. While the explosions are occurring the boss takes 50% less damage. If the player dodges the void explosion tick perfect within a 1 tile radius their next attack will have increased attack speed. This repeats six times. Explosions for any given player will not appear for or harm other players.[confirmation needed]

There is a misconception that every weapon turns into a 2-tick weapon during this mechanic. Elder maul doesn’t, although it can attack at least every 4 ticks (could be every 3 ticks, but haven’t tested it) during the mechanic

maybe weapon attack speed is halved and rounded down? Or reduced by a flat 3 ticks? Needs more testing with different attack speed weapons

Ocellus will land on the ground, removing the floor of void around him.

Ocellus will switch to using the Soul Split prayer. He will then perform a void blast that hits the entire quadrant, using either melee (saw blade under him), ranged (void arrows) or magic (purple energy pulsating outwards). If the attack is not prayed against, it will deal 40+ damage; if prayed, it will deal ~6-7 damage.

Ocellus will then turn the floor of the entire quadrant into void except for the tiles directly below him and within 1 tile of him, and will begin to use the Deflect Range prayer.

Ocellus will repeat the blue, wind-like attack and void explosion attack as described in step 2 and step 3.

The void floor will be removed, and Ocellus will repeat the sequence described in step 5. Once the attack is complete, the entire cycle repeats. This continues until Occellus is defeated.

You’ll start a brand-new character on worlds separate from the main game where everybody is a character with all the privileges of a main (trading, access to the Grand Exchange, etc) but with only a single life! Separate worlds, separate economy, one life. Death truly matters.

These worlds won’t have any XP or Drop Rate boosts like Leagues or Deadman. However, Death wishes to truly challenge you; You’ll be going at the same pace as normal worlds – death is the one true enemy!

Although, dying isn’t quite the end. Death is gracious enough to give you a choice: either reset your progress entirely and start again, or be banished from Hardcore Worlds and get sent to the main game! If transferring, you keep all your progress and gear, except the items you lost on death. That’s right, dying is more dangerous than ever. Any item on your person that does not fall under the usual “Items kept on Death” category, as seen on the in-game interface, will be lost forever. These will not be transferred with you to the main game. Think twice before bringing your best fit.

This is a brand-new permanent experience, not just for those who lust for daring challenges, but with a fresh economy comes opportunity and the potential to strike it rich – perhaps you’ll make a name for yourself as a master craftsman or blacksmith! Something you might want to be aware of: these worlds are slightly more deadly than playing a normal Hardcore IM, as we’re taking the rule set from Hardcore Group Ironman which means areas like the Fight Caves, Inferno and even the Nightmare Zone will count as an unsafe death!

Hardcore Worlds is an accompaniment gamemode alongside all the great content we’ve lined up for the foreseeable future. We’ll be covering all that and more in a blog dedicated to Hardcore Worlds very soon, but until then… prepare to survive!
