Woodcutting is a skill trained simultaneously with Firemaking in the lower levels. At higher levels, bank the logs necessary for Construction training. Otherwise the skill is trained as normal.

Ironman training is not substantially different from normal, however a large amount of mid-level experience comes from Wintertodt.

Early training: Quests

Early levels can be skipped by completing Monk’s Friend, which has no requirements, is extremely short, and rewards 2,000 Woodcutting experience, enough to go from level 1 to 13. There are a few other notable quests that grant experience, but not available early enough to be necessary before Wintertodt.

Monk’s Friend rewards 2,000 Woodcutting experience.

Icthlarin’s Little Helper requires Gertrude’s Cat, rewards 4,000 Woodcutting experience

Enlightened Journey requires 20, 20, 30, 36, rewards 1,500 Woodcutting experience

The Eyes of Glouphrie requires The Grand Tree, 5, 46, rewards 2,500 Woodcutting experience

Equipment

Axes

Finding axe upgrades at each Woodcutting milestone is the largest challenge of training the skill. Players who have access to the fairy rings can use code BKQ and safespot tree spirits for axe drops up to and including rune. Alternatively, players can use a steel axe until level 60 Woodcutting and then purchase a rune axe from the Woodcutting Guild. A dragon axe can only be obtained as a rare drop from one of the Dagannoth Kings, or as a very rare reward from a Wintertodt supply crate.

Lumberjack Outfit

The Lumberjack outfit provides a passive 2.5% woodcutting xp bonus and is considered worthwhile to obtain if planning on achieving 99 Woodcutting. It can be obtained relatively quickly from Temple Trekking, but is also purchasable from the Forestry Shop.

Log Basket

The Log basket obtained from the Forestry shop can hold up to 28 logs. With a Sturdy harness and Forestry kit, it can be combined into a Forestry basket. This functions similarly to the Fish barrel, allowing you to store more logs before needing to bank. The log basket is useful for storing logs needed for deadfall and pitfall traps.

Forestry

Forestry events can spawn passively while training on most types of trees, excluding certain tree types such as regular/burnt trees, hollow trees, player-grown trees, the blisterwood tree, and trees within the Woodcutting Guild. These Forestry events give a wide variety of rewards such as Farming, Construction, Fletching, Hunter, Thieving XP, Seeds and Egg nests alongside additional Woodcutting XP and Anima-infused bark. Anima bark used at the Forestry shop can be used for Sawmill vouchers or Twitcher’s gloves to grant additional planks and bird nests, respectively.

Recommended methods

Levels 1–~45: Training Woodcutting

From level 1, players will only be able to chop regular trees. It’s strongly recommended to complete Monk’s Friend to skip most of these levels, and use log spawns to train Firemaking.

At level 15, players can chop and burn oak trees until level 35. Burning teak logs only requires 35, but it’s best to stick with oaks until chopping teaks becomes available. A good location to cut and light fires is by Effigy at the Tower of Life; standing in between the adjacent oak trees.

At level 35, teak trees can be chopped and burned until players are eligible for Wintertodt at 50 Firemaking. An easy to find teak tree can be found south-west of Castle Wars, which is fast to get to with the minigame teleport. A patch of several teak trees can be found south of Civitas illa Fortis, requiring only Children of the Sun to access

Levels ~45–60: Wintertodt

Getting at least level 60 Woodcutting from Wintertodt is recommended, as players can simply buy a better axe from the Woodcutting Guild and do not have to spend time killing monsters.

Levels 35–99: Teak trees

With tick manipulation, chopping teak trees is the best Woodcutting experience in the game. Without manipulation, Sulliusceps becomes better experience at 65. Since large quantities of teak planks are useful for construction training, it’s recommended to make the logs into planks immediately.

The most efficient route for this is to teleport to a player-owned house and use a servant to make the planks. After sending him off, a mounted digsite pendant can be used to quickly get back to the teak trees on Fossil Island.

Ape Atoll is another option for teak trees since it’s a shorter run. Monkey Madness II makes the monsters unaggressive there, otherwise a greegree is necessary. The Ape Atoll Teleport on the Arceuus spellbook can be used to get there quickly, or a house portal.

Levels 65–99: Sulliusceps

A Sulliuscep

Main article: Sulliuscep

Sulliusceps on Fossil Island are a good source of non-tick manipulated experience, around 100,000–110,000 Woodcutting experience per hour. They’re also a source of unidentified fossils, which are useful for the displays on the bottom floor of the Varrock Museum.

Being in the Tar Swamp, players training here will have to contend with Tar Monsters. Equipment with Ranged defence is recommended, since prayers will be negligibly effective against these monsters. Players with high hitpoints and/or ample food may opt to wear other gear such as Graceful or the Lumberjack outfit as these offer relevant benefits as well. It’s recommended to bring 9 mushrooms to fill the mud pit at the start, which allows safe passage to the beginning of the swamp. Without, the mud pit can deal upwards of 50 damage.

Levels 90–99: Redwood trees

Chopping redwood trees is the best passive method of training. Players can expect more than 60,000 Woodcutting experience per hour, with very large periods of AFK downtime. Natural spawns can be found in the Woodcutting Guild. Redwood saplings can also be grown in the Farming Guild, but this is not recommended for training Woodcutting, as this prevents the growth of new redwood trees for Farming experience and the Woodcutting Guild provides an invisible +7 boost to Woodcutting.

It is also possible to use tick manipulation for redwoods in the Farming Guild, which is the most efficient method overall if the redwood logs are then later burnt for Firemaking while multiskilling, for example while Stealing Artefacts.

The most efficient teleports to redwoods are Xeric’s talisman to the lookout, Rada’s blessing to the Kourend Woodland, or a skills necklace.

Thieving training on an ironman is not very different from training it normally. Certain methods, such as pickpocketing Master Farmers, are favoured due to their valuable drops.

Early training: Quests

Early levels can be skipped by completing quests rewarding Thieving experience. Notably, Hazeel Cult has no requirements, one path involves no combat, and grants 1,500 Thieving experience. Fight Arena also has no requirements, the monsters can be safespotted, and it rewards 2,175 Thieving experience. Completing both will reach level 18 Thieving from level 1.

Hazeel Cult rewards 1,500 Thieving experience

Fight Arena rewards 2,175 Thieving experience

Tower of Life requires 10, rewards 500 Thieving experience

Biohazard requires Plague City, rewards 1,250 Thieving experience

Ethically Acquired Antiquities requires Children of the Sun, Shield of Arrav, 25, rewards 6,000 Thieving experience

Death on the Isle requires 34, 32, rewards 10,000 Thieving experience

The Feud requires 30, rewards 15,000 Thieving experience

General information and tips

Rogue equipment

Obtain the rogue equipment as soon as possible. The Rogues’ Den minigame requires 50 Thieving and 50 Agility, and obtaining the full set should take around 90 minutes. It is recommended to have something else to do at the bank whilst waiting for run energy to restore (such as cooking fish, blowing molten glass), or opt for using energy potions (or strange fruit, as this can be obtained from fruit stalls) for more efficient runs.

H.A.M. Store rooms

After completing Death to the Dorgeshuun, players can pickpocket H.A.M. Guards for H.A.M. keys and open the chests in the H.A.M. Store rooms, which contain coins, gems and jewellery. This is a way to obtain an amulet of strength or an amulet of power without the Crafting requirement and is a decent moneymaking option at lower levels. Wearing a full set of H.A.M. robes will not reduce the chance of failure when pickpocketing the guards as they only reduce the chance of being kicked out of the hideout, which cannot happen while in the store room. The player will loot double keys if wearing full rogue equipment.

Early money making

Blackjacking bandits in Pollnivneach has few requirements and it is one of the best ways to make starting cash for Managing Miscellania. Pickpocketing Knights of Ardougne is a slower but easier alternative at higher levels and it makes slightly more money than blackjacking, but this requires completion of the medium tasks in the Ardougne Diary, which in turn requires having a mith grapple.

Fastest experience

Levels 1–25: Men, women, cakes, and silk

Safespot for the cake stall in East Ardougne.

At level 1, men and women in Lumbridge are the only option. Consider completing a few quests instead.

At level 5, players can thieve cakes from the bakery stalls in East Ardougne. They can be stolen while standing in a safespot, eliminating risk for lower levelled players or hardcore ironmen. Bank the cakes obtained, as they are useful for low-level questing. Banking a few loaves of bread is also a good idea, as they are needed for a few quests (Death Plateau requires 10).

At level 20, players can make a bit of starting cash by stealing silk at the silk stall and later selling them to the silk merchant for 60 coins each. He will remember theft for 30 minutes to one hour, but afterwards, entire inventories of silk can be sold.

Levels 25–45: Fruit stalls

At level 25, players can thieve from the fruit stalls in Hosidius.

Bank the strange fruit for run energy and golovanova fruit tops for botanical pies.

Levels 45–99: Blackjacking

Very click intensive. One of the best ways to make starting cash for Managing Miscellania or beginner ironmen in general.

Hardcore ironmen are advised to wear an escape crystal when blackjacking in case they disconnect after failing a knock-out.

Rogue equipment is highly recommended.

Levels 49–99: Stealing artefacts

Requires stamina potions for optimal experience. Allows you to combine Thieving with other skilling methods you can complete while running (alching, fletching, glassblowing, etc.). Be aware that you will need a Lockpick, which need level 50 in Thieving and 50 in Agility to buy it from Martin Thwait.

Levels 50–99: Stealing valuables

Requires access to Varlamore through the Children of the Sun quest.

Very low intensity relative to most other methods while giving moderate experience and cash, along with some minor passive prayer experience in the form of blessed bone statuettes.

Rogue equipment is recommended for twice as many house keys when pickpocketing wealthy citizens.

Levels 55–99: Knights of Ardougne

Knights of Ardougne are a less click intensive but slower alternative to Blackjacking. For ironmen, this is one of the best ways to make starting cash for Managing Miscellania.

Rogue equipment and completion of the medium Ardougne Diary are highly recommended.

Level 64: Molch Stone Chests

At level 64, the stone chests in the Lizardman Temple under Molch can be lockpicked, granting 280 Thieving experience upon success, and respawn almost instantly. It is recommended that players bring a lockpick for increased success rate, and that players have level 45 Farming in order to access the Farming Guild bank, just to the north-west. Upon failing to loot a chest, there is a 1/8 chance that the player will be teleported to the surface, where they can be attacked and possibly poisoned by lizardmen. Therefore players should also bring some form of antipoison. There are no risks of being attacked while inside the temple, as the lizardmen shamans are behind barriers. If the player is unlucky and gets teleported to the surface repeatedly, they might need to manage their run energy. Therefore graceful set and two super energy(4) potions are recommended. Super energy is recommended as a cheaper alternative to the usual stamina potion, as the run back is short and the run depletion-reduction effect of a stamina potion is likely to be wasted. Lastly, if the player has access to a gem bag, that will grant them additional inventory space before needing to bank. For even faster banking at the farming guild, players can choose to use a skills necklace or Farming cape if available.

Players can expect between 90,000–110,000 Thieving experience per hour using the above items at around level 78 Thieving, depending on focus and luck. Stone chests are notable for dropping the untradeable Xeric’s Talisman, lots of Xerician fabric, ruby and sapphires, seeds, bolt tips (including onyx bolt tips), and medium clues.

Levels 75: Bazaar Gem Stalls

Requires access to Varlamore through the Children of the Sun quest.

At level 75 the two gem stalls located in Civitas illa Fortis can be thieved from for 408 Thieving experience each. Running to the outer edge of the stall (farthest from the urchin) will help you remain undetected from nearby guards when stealing. With the use of world hopping and graceful set it is possible to get 150,000-170,000 Thieving experience per hour when banking the gems at the nearby bank. Utilizing a gem bag and super energy(4) or stamina potion(4) can increase stealing uptime by reducing the time need running to the bank.

A pharaoh’s sceptre’s can be used as transportation to the Tombs of Amascut, as a requirement for a specific master clue step, or as a material for building an occult or ancient altar.

85+ Farming is also beneficial, as Farming levels up to 85 increase the drop rate of ranarr, snapdragon, and torstol seeds from Master Farmers.

Completion of the hard Ardougne Diary and wearing the Thieving cape are required for this method.

Training Slayer on an ironman account is the sole way to upgrade some of the best-in-slot items. It is also an excellent method to make significant money and train combat skills. Many of the key worthwhile items are locked behind Slayer levels for Ironmen, such as the abyssal whip, dragon boots, trident of the seas, occult necklace and dragon hunter lance.

Duradel is generally the best Slayer master to use. Konar quo Maten should be used for every milestone task for the extra Slayer reward points.

Making cannonballs is not worthwhile for efficient Slayer training (except for smoke devils in some cases), because it is simply faster to complete a task without using a dwarf multicannon than making cannonballs and using one. Because of this, certain tasks which are decent on a main account, such as suqahs and kalphites, are not worth doing on an Ironman account, as they have no notable drops and offer mediocre experience rates without a cannon. Blocking suqahs and kalphites should be one of your first priorities as an ironman player.

Once you have completed hard tasks in the Morytania Diary, it is worthwhile to use the bonecrusher for tasks where you normally would not pick up the bones. Using the bonecrusher provides supplemental Prayer experience in the long run and also restores Prayer points when doing certain tasks in the Catacombs of Kourend. Bonecrusher charges can be easily sustained by the daily bonemeal reward from Robin.

For tasks you want to finish quickly (usually when prioritising Slayer points), it is recommended to wear the Expeditious bracelet, since it has a 25% chance to treat each kill as 2 kills towards the Slayer task. If you instead want to extend the task, a Bracelet of slaughter will have a 25% chance for a kill to not count towards the Slayer task.

When using Slayer reward points, prioritise blocking and skipping poor tasks over unlocking perks and extensions. Unlock superior Slayer monsters, the Slayer helmet and the ability to craft Slayer rings first. If you are using Ranged often, consider unlocking Broader Fletching perk early on for the ability to fletch broad bolts.

Ring of wealth is a good choice for the ring slot before you have access to Fremennik rings, as it automatically collects coin drops from monsters.

Unless you want to get quicker Magic levels, use defensive casting when bursting tasks (such as dust devils), since it gives more experience overall. If you are low on herb seeds, kill normal nechryael with melee instead of bursting Greater nechryael in the Catacombs of Kourend.

Before you can kill abyssal demons for the abyssal whip, train only Strength after you have 75 Attack (for Arclight) and 70 Defence (for Barrows equipment). Unless you want to hit combat level 100 sooner, for Duradel. Once you have obtained the abyssal whip, train on controlled until you have 99 Strength (if you haven’t already), and after that train Attack and Defence. If you have a kraken tentacle, use the excess abyssal whips for an abyssal tentacle.

Starting off

The natural history quiz has no requirements and rewards 1,000 Slayer experience, making for an easy way to reach level 9 Slayer.

To train Slayer efficiently, it is recommended that you begin after reaching 80–90 combat, with reasonable gear.

Recommended skills:

70+

,

and

48 (Kourend Castle Teleport)

43 (Protect from Melee)

45 (super attack potions) or

55 (super strength potions)

70 (Taverley Dungeon shortcut to blue dragons)

27 for the ability to make emerald rings

Using Ranged for Slayer tasks in general is not recommended due to the poorer damage output of the available weapons and ammunition compared to dragon scimitar. However, some tasks can prove to be difficult or tedious to do without Prayer flicking or use of Prayer potions, so safespotting can be a justified option in some cases.

Point boosting

Turael

When starting Slayer training, the first priority is to block the most common tasks that are bad while having some Slayer points in reserve for skipping less common, but equally bad tasks. It is therefore optimal to start by boosting Slayer points by using Turael and doing every 10th task at Konar quo Maten or the highest level Slayer master you are able to use. While Turael tasks do not give good experience, they are very easy and fast to complete unlike some of the tasks given by higher-level Slayer masters.

Turael can be quickly accessed via the games necklace’s teleport to Burthorpe. Wearing heavy armour is not recommended, as you will be running a lot and the monsters you are killing do not deal much damage. Whenever you need to bank, teleport to the Ferox Enclave via a ring of dueling or use the minigame teleport and use the free-for-all portal to reset stats and run energy after banking.

Recommended inventory setup for Turael tasks:

Games necklace

Ring of dueling for resetting stats at the Ferox Enclave

2 super attacks (and super strengths if not using a dragon battleaxe)

Runes for teleportation

Ardougne cloak 1 (or higher) and a dramen/lunar staff for access to fairy rings

Ectophial

Chronicle

A light source

Dragon battleaxe or dragon dagger for special attacks

Energy potions, antipoison (for cave crawlers and slimes) and some food (optional)

Additional information on Turael’s tasks and where they can be done can be found at Slayer reward point#Turael boosting.

Once you have attained enough Slayer points, block these tasks as soon as you can:

Black demon

Hellhound

Suqah (Konar quo Maten does not assign these)

Kalphite (block last, Kalphite Workers are reasonably fast to kill)

Once you have these tasks blocked and some spare points for skipping, move on to the highest-level Slayer master you are able to use.

Krystilia (Wilderness Slayer)

Alternatively, doing Wilderness Slayer tasks from Krystilia is another option for obtaining a good amount of Slayer points due to rewarding significantly more points per completed task than any other master. Krystilia has no requirements, but players should be sufficient enough to survive in the Wilderness and are strongly recommended to have at least 43 prayer for access to overhead prayers. When doing Wilderness tasks, only risk easily replaceable equipment you are willing to lose, such as monk robes or dragonhide armour. It’s important to note that Krystilia can assign tasks of any combat level (Assuming skill and quest requirements are met), making this a potentially less preferable option at lower combat levels due to the chance of being given slow and/or difficult tasks early on.

Monsters killed for wilderness tasks have the chance to drop larran’s keys which can be used to open larran’s chests for plenty of cash and useful resources for ironmen like seeds, gems, ores, food and alchables. Slayer monsters within the Wilderness Slayer Cave have the added bonus of generally increased drop rates compared to their normal counterparts which, along with access to looting bags for an extra 28 inventory slots, make this a high risk but extremely high reward option of training slayer. Lastly, monsters within the Wilderness can drop blighted food, blighted super restores and blighted rune sacks all of which can only be used within the wilderness, but are particularly beneficial for ironmen as they add some level of self-sustainability and reduce the need to obtain these resources yourself.

Recommended tasks pre-58 Slayer

Monster name

Recommended location

Notes

Ankous

Stronghold Slayer Cave or Catacombs of Kourend

Ankous are a fairly fast task and they drop some death and blood runes. Use salve amulet (e) for increased damage output.

Banshees (Turael)

Catacombs of Kourend

Twisted Banshees drop a decent amount of herbs, herb seeds, pure essence and runes. They reside in a multi-combat area however, but they can be easily safespotted with Ranged or Magic. Wearing earmuffs is required. Use salve amulet (e) for increased damage output if using Melee (or (ei) for all attack styles if the salve amulet has been imbued at Nightmare Zone).

Bloodvelds

Catacombs of Kourend

Mutated Bloodvelds are one of the best tasks at lower levels, as they have very high Hitpoints and low Defence, and they also drop decent alchables and generous amount of blood runes. However they hit hard without Protect from Melee. If using Melee, Prayer flicking or using Prayer potions is required, otherwise safespot with Ranged.

Black dragons

Taverley Dungeon

Killing baby black dragons in the Taverley Dungeon is a very fast task. Bank the babydragon bones they drop.

Blue dragon

Taverley Dungeon

A very long task at lower levels, but good Prayer experience. An anti-dragon shield is needed. Having 70 Agility is strongly recommended for the shortcut. Banking hides is not recommended, as this effectively doubles the amount of trips for the task.

Dagannoths

Catacombs of Kourend

Dagannoths drop a good amount of herb seeds and offer decent Prayer experience from the ensouled dagannoth heads. They also have relatively low Defence. Using Prayer potions is recommended, alternatively you can go stand next to a wall where only one or two of them can attack you.

Fire giants

Stronghold Slayer Cave

Fire giants have relatively low Defence and decent drops.

Greater demons

Chasm of Fire

Greater demons are not a very good task due to their poor drops, and they should be skipped once the player has a comfortable amount of Slayer points.

Jellies (Konar quo Maten)

Catacombs of Kourend

Warped Jellies have high Hitpoints and only moderate Defence, and they also drop decent alchables. However they hit fairly hard without Protect from Melee. If using Melee, Prayer flicking or using Prayer potions is strongly recommended.

Kalphites

Kalphite Cave

Kalphite Workers are a fairly fast task, however they should be blocked as soon as possible.

Trolls

Troll Stronghold or north of Jatiszo

Although trolls have somewhat decent drops, they are not a very good task and should be skipped once the player has a comfortable amount of Slayer points.

Iron dragons (high Defence, long task)

Steel dragons (very long task)

Waterfiends (very slow to kill without a crush weapon)

Turael skipping

Higher levelled players may find that they wish to spend Slayer points en masse in an attempt to get one (or a few) specific tasks, such as cave kraken, smoke devil, hydra, greater demons, etc.

Players should avoid spending all of their points on skips to try and get specific tasks in this manner.

Instead, if players receive an undesired task from their Slayer master, they can return to Turael to sacrifice their Slayer streak and replace their task with a much faster one. Players can then complete Turael’s task and return to their preferred Slayer master to try to get the task they want, rinse and repeat. Players that are about to begin Turael skipping should make sure that they are not too close to a major point streak, as they could be missing out on some free points in that case. Even regardless of that, the amount of points that players will save by not spending them on skips will greatly outweigh the loss of their streak. As far as for levelling Slayer, focusing on Turael skipping may not necessarily grant high Slayer experience rates, and may only be useful for getting specific tasks.

The inventory setup is similar to that of Point boosting with Turael, but higher level players can add things to the list such as: a rune pouch with NPC contact (if they have a POH with various portals), full graceful, a Royal seed pod, Salve amulet (e), and maybe even a Cannon and Cannonballs.

Killing bosses and demi-bosses on task

Abyssal Sire (Abyssal demons)

Abyssal Sire drops the unsired, which can be placed at the Font of Consumption and gives the player a reward in the process. The most notable rewards are the abyssal bludgeon pieces and the abyssal dagger.

Alchemical Hydra (Hydras)

The Alchemical Hydra notably drops the hydra’s claw, which can be combined with a Zamorakian hasta to create a dragon hunter lance, one of the best items to have on an Ironman account. Additionally, the Alchemical Hydra also drops hydra leather, which can be made into ferocious gloves, and brimstone ring pieces. The Alchemical Hydra is also a generous source of money, Prayer and Herblore experience. Hydras can only be assigned by Konar quo Maten.

The twisted bow is the most effective weapon to kill the Alchemical Hydra, followed by the dragon hunter crossbow with ruby bolts (e) until it reaches 40% remaining Hitpoints, upon which players should switch to using a toxic blowpipe. Toxic blowpipe is also viable throughout the whole kill should players not have a twisted bow or dragon hunter crossbow, although its rapid consumption of Zulrah’s scales should be noted, especially if planning to kill the boss enough to obtain all the unique drops.

Cerberus (Hellhounds)

Cerberus drops the primordial, pegasian and eternal crystals, which are used to create best-in-slot boots in the game. Typically Cerberus is killed with an arclight, but you can still use a Zamorakian hasta/abyssal bludgeon/toxic blowpipe if you run out of charges. Hellhounds are very commonly assigned by Duradel.

Ironmen are strongly advised to use a different strategy which lets players often skip the Prayer-draining ghost phases entirely, letting players easily use less than a quarter of the Prayer potions that they would normally. The strategy revolves around keeping Cerberus above 400 health until 56 seconds passed from when she first attacked (or more precisely, after her second set of combo attacks, wait for 3 more regular attacks), before switching to your best DPS gear/spec weapons to finish her off. Players must be able to maintain more than ~7.5 DPS after the 56 seconds have passed to skip ghosts entirely. Using a full set of Guthan’s equipment for the first 56 seconds is very important for extending trips with this strategy.

But if killing Cerberus normally (without attempting to skip ghost phases), it is recommended to be able to effectively pickpocket Master Farmers for ranarr seeds, as players can easily run out of Prayer potions if they go dry on the uniques.

Dagannoth Kings (Dagannoths)

Dagannoth Kings are killed for their unique drops (notably the rings and the dragon axe). After completion of the elite Fremennik Diary, killing the boss trio also offers good Prayer experience from the noted dagannoth bones.

Demonic gorillas (Black demons)

Demonic gorillas drop zenyte shards, which can be used to make the best-in-slot jewellery. Demonic gorillas also drop good alchables and decent amount of high-level tree seeds.

Lizardman shamans (Lizardmen)

Lizardman shamans drop the dragon warhammer, which has one of the most useful special attacks in the game. On task, the player can kill lizardman shamans in the Lizardman Caves which is often way less crowded than the Lizardman Canyon.

Kalphite Queen (Kalphites)

Kalphite Queen is killed for Herblore and Farming supplies, most notable being the wines of Zamorak and potato cacti.

Kree’arra (Aviansie)

Kree’arra is killed for Armadyl armour pieces.

K’ril Tsutsaroth (Greater demons)

K’ril Tsutsaroth is mainly killed for the Zamorakian spear, which can be made into a Zamorakian hasta. Other notable uniques include the staff of the dead and Zamorak hilt. Typical setup uses Arclight and armour with high Magic defence. If you do not have Karil’s leatherskirt, Void Knight robe gives slightly more Magic defence than black d’hide chaps. Players with a bow of Faerdhinen and crystal armour or a twisted bow will be able to get much faster kills using these weapons. Greater demons are commonly assigned by Duradel.

Vorkath (Blue dragons)

This is a list of monsters assigned by Duradel, along with the pros and cons of completing the task. This table aims to empower players in choosing their tasks based on the pros and cons of each task reflecting on drops, transport and access, combat area etc. Alternatively, an analysis of tasks from an experience per hour standpoint is below.

Do tasks which give you a lot of useful resources, even if they don’t offer the highest experience rates. Aberrant spectres, kurasks and nechryaels (the ones in the Slayer Tower) drop herbs and seeds very frequently, gargoyles drop coins and alchable items, blue dragons drop dragon bones for Prayer training.
The Guardians of the Rift minigame is a fairly efficient and much more engaging way of training Runecraft. In addition to Runecraft experience, the minigame also offers passive Mining and Crafting experience. The minigame is profitable and offers useful rewards, such as the colossal pouch for holding more essence and raiments of the eye set for crafting extra runes.

To participate in the minigame, players must have completed Temple of the Eye and it’s fairly quick to get to 10 Runecraft to start the quest by completing Enter the Abyss and gaining few extra Runecraft experience from another quest or crafting runes.

There are also a number of quests that are very useful to have completed:

Lunar Diplomacy to be able to cast NPC Contact to quickly repair essence pouches

Lost City to craft cosmic runes

Troll Stronghold to craft law runes

Mourning’s End Part II to craft death runes

Sins of the Father to craft blood runes

For the fastest experience, ironmen should use the best pickaxe and all essence pouches available. The rune pouch is strongly recommended to save inventory space. Players who do not have the raiments of the eye outfit yet are advised to wear any tier of the Varrock armour to have a 10% chance to mine double guardian fragments at once. Ironmen may also make use of the celestial ring if they have it.

Ironmen who have the abyssal lantern should light it with redwood logs when possible, which can either be obtained by chopping redwoods at 90 Woodcutting (boostable) or opening Gold Chests in the Shades of Mort’ton minigame, which high combat level is recommended for as well as 80 Firemaking at minimum to burn fiyr remains on magic pyre logs for gold keys. This makes it so the player does not need to repair essence pouches via NPC Contact, which saves 1–3 inventory slots, depending on if the player is using a rune pouch. Ironmen who cannot use redwood logs or are wearing the Runecraft cape are advised to use yew logs for the contribution point boost it provides or willow/magic logs for extra runes crafted (blisterwood logs for blood runes).

Through Guardians of the Rift players can obtain the raiments of the eye set. It provides 10% more runes per piece worn and an additional 20% set bonus, for a total of 60% when wearing a full set, which is very useful for ironmen to obtain. The abyssal needle is used to combine essence pouches into the colossal pouch. It can hold up to 40 essence, making it the best essence pouch to use. Valuable runes obtained through the minigame can be kept for later use or sold for profit.

Experience rates are shown in the table below. The rates assume using all pouches available. From 85 Runecraft onwards, the rates assume doing the minigame in small coordinated teams for faster experience.

Quest minimalists that only want to train Runecraft without completing Rune Mysteries or other quests can find books for customers in the Arceuus Library. This method offers relatively fast experience and does not require any pure essence. However, since each book turned in grants 5 times the current Runecraft level in experience, it is recommended to gain at least 20 Runecraft levels through conventional methods before utilizing the library unless if the player is a quest minimalist. Energy-restoration food, potions, and explorer’s ring are recommended to increase the experience rate while running around the library.

With good performance and when using stamina potions, players can turn in up to around 160 books per hour, translating to 44,800 experience per hour at 70 Runecraft.
From level 77 onwards the player can train Runecraft in Arceuus by crafting blood runes at level 77, or soul runes at level 90. It requires significantly less attention compared to other methods, and also provides some passive Mining and Crafting experience. Both methods are also profitable; blood runes offer better profit but slower experience, soul runes offer faster experience but are much less profitable.

Players will need a chisel (can be obtained at the runestone mine) and a pickaxe of any kind for this method. The type of pickaxe does not matter for mining dense essence blocks. It is also strongly recommended to have a high Agility level (78+ recommended) and the graceful outfit for faster run energy restoration. Level 73 Agility is required for the western rock scramble shortcut.

Completion of the medium Kourend & Kebos Diary will grant the player 5% chance to mine 2 dense essence blocks at once (but no additional crafting/mining experience is gained), which increases overall experience rates slightly. Players that have completed the elite tasks of the Kourend & Kebos diary will receive 10% additional blood runes, however no extra experience is given. A higher Mining level is also slightly helpful, as the essence stone depletes less frequently with a higher Mining level. The dragon or crystal pickaxe special attack can be used to boost the Mining level.

Wearing a ring of endurance with at least 500 charges is recommended should the player have one. The charged ring will reduce run energy drain, and without one it is possible to run out of run energy even at high Agility levels.

Blood runes are needed for barrage spells and they are very expensive when bought from a magic shop, so it is best to keep the runes for barrage Slayer. A lot of blood runes are also needed to use sanguinesti staff and scythe of vitur for high-level bossing. Soul runes are used for casting Blood Barrage when killing God Wars Dungeon bosses, and also to charge Tumeken’s shadow. Players without these end game weapons may choose to sell excess runes for profit.

Experience and profit rates are shown in the table below. The rates assume the player has completed medium Kourend & Kebos Diary tasks. The profit rates for selling the runes assume the runes are sold to Ali Morrisane. The profit rates for using the runes assume the money saved if the runes would have been bought from the Wizards’ Guild, buying full stock per world.

Players who have completed the elite tasks of the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary (players without the tasks done may carry a Dramen staff), and have a revitalisation pool and fairy ring in their player-owned house can alternatively use Teleport to house to make the procedure slightly faster and remove the need for the graceful outfit, this would allow players to wear Raiments of the eye and craft an additional 60% more runes. A construction cape or rune pouch with law runes, dust runes, and an empty spot for the crafted runes will allow for no lost inventory slots. For blood runecrafting, after making a second inventory of dark essence blocks teleport to your house, restore run energy with the pool, use the fairy ring CIS and run to the altar.
Essence training methods

Acquiring essence

Acquiring a large stack of essence can be tedious if only mining in the rune essence mine and it isn’t worth the time that way. Here are more efficient methods to acquire a large stack of essence.

High combat stats (80+) – Slayer, Zulrah, Chambers of Xeric

The best way to collect pure essence is through Slayer, as wyrms, gargoyles, Skeletal Wyverns and Fossil Island wyverns frequently drop pure essence in large quantities. Players can also collect pure essence daily from Wizard Cromperty after completing the medium tasks (or higher) in the Ardougne Diary. High-level players can also get a lot of pure essence from Zulrah and the Chambers of Xeric. Temple Trekking is also an option, as using route 3 with a medium or hard companion will net around 5,000–10,000 pure essence per hour.

Mid combat stats (60+) – Soul Wars Spoils of War

An option for mid and high level players is opening Spoils of war from Soul Wars. Pure essence rewarded here can be 5,000–15,000 depending on luck. Each game lasts 15 minutes, and the 30 zeal needed to buy spoils of war depends on the amount of participation. Low level players (below 60 combat) may need 2 games to obtain over 30 zeal, while higher levels can easily obtain 30–40+ zeal per game.

Low combat stats (40 or below) – Temple Trekking

Temple Trekking with an easy companion on Route 1 provides 50 pure essence per trip. Because all combat instances can be evaded, low level players can avoid combat entirely and focus on completing treks as fast as possible. In combination with Protect from Melee and/or Protect from Missiles, players are extremely unlikely to take damage. This is also a good early source of bow strings and the Lumberjack outfit. See the Temple Trekking page for more info on what enemies/encounters to avoid, how to get the Lumberjack outfit, and how to unlock Burgh de Rott Ramble for even faster trips.

Slayer task drops – Noted Pure Essence

Many monsters, particularly those assigned as tasks by slayer masters, drop noted pure essence. One can easily amass thousands of pure essence after completing 100 or so slayer assignments.

Daeyalt essence

Daeyalt essence is only available after completion of Sins of the Father, in which players fight several extremely high level bosses. Recommended combat stats to effectively complete this quest are 80 and above.

Players can mine daeyalt essence at the mine beneath Darkmeyer, which can be used in place of pure essence and will grant 50% extra Runecraft experience. With tick manipulation, this becomes a good source of essence and experience.

Wizard Cromperty

With the medium Ardougne Diary completed, players can get 100 free noted pure essence a day from Wizard Cromperty. Completing the hard diary will give the player 150 free noted pure essence per day and completing the elite diary will give the player 250 free noted pure essence per day.

Level 1+: Abyssal runecrafting

The Abyss can be accessed after the completion of Enter the Abyss, and will grant access to every altar without a talisman or tiara. It can be reached via the Wilderness.

The abyss typically offers worse experience rates than other methods due to the enemies and obstacles, however it can be valuable for access to remote altars to acquire specific runes the player needs (such as nature runes, law runes, etc.), or when a talisman is not available.

The abyss offers you the ability to choose which runes you want to craft and should be accessed using the Ferox Enclave Teleport which allows players to freely replenish run energy.

Levels 23–99: Lava runes

At level 23, players can craft Lava runes. Without access to the Lunar spellbook and 82 Magic for Magic Imbue (requiring Lunar Diplomacy) this method can be difficult to use for Ironmen due to lack of access to elemental talismans in bulk. Elemental talismans can be acquired from Guardians of the Rift but it’s preferrable to do Ourania Altar runs instead.

Without spellbook: Fill an inventory with pure essence, a fire tiara, earth runes, and an earth talisman and use a ring of dueling to teleport to the Emir’s Arena. A few steps north is the Fire Altar where the runes can be crafted. The ring of dueling can be used to teleport to Castle Wars for easy access to a bank, at which point the process can be repeated.

With spellbook: Equip a steam battlestaff, fill your inventory with essence pouches, a rune pouch filled with earth runes and astral runes, and pure essence. The goal is to cast Magic Imbue so that earth talismans are not necessary.

Players will need to make the emerald jewellery for crafting lava runes; however, high-level players may obtain significant quantities of binding necklaces while killing the Abyssal Sire for its unique drops.

Players can craft random runes at the Ourania Altar starting at 1 Runecraft, but getting there is slow and inefficient without completion of Lunar Diplomacy for Ourania Teleport (requiring 71 Magic). Completion of the medium Ardougne Diary is also highly recommended for bonus runes. Players may take a slow, winding path or faster path filled with low to mid level enemies. Players will not be hit often on official Ourania worlds, but low levels should be cautious. Once the above requirements are met:

Set your spellbook to the Lunar spellbook by travelling to Lunar Isle. Remember to bring a Seal of passage if you wish to bank on Lunar Isle without completion of Dream Mentor. Quick transportation to Rellekka (and the boats to Lunar Isle) include Fremennik sea boots and Fairy rings nearby, DKS (north, Polar Hunter area) and AJR (Fremennik Slayer Dungeon).

Wield an Earth battlestaff or Staff of earth. Fill your inventory with the following: law runes, astral runes, mind runes (for payment to Eniola), essence pouches (small, medium, large, and/or giant), and pure essence.

Ourania Teleport to the altar. The official Worlds for Ourania Altar are 327, 480 (P2P).

Run toward the altar and take the ladder down, following the combat path to the altar, and craft your runes.

Teleport back to the altar with Ourania Teleport. Rinse and repeat, paying 20 mind runes to access the bank at the entrance.

Once run energy is depleted, replenish at Ferox Enclave, then head back to the altar.

When essence pouches decay, use NPC Contact to the Dark Mage to repair them immediately and risk-free.

Levels 95–99: Wrath runes

At 95 Runecraft and after completing Dragon Slayer II, players can craft wrath runes. They are mainly used for casting offering spells to train Prayer. Wrath runes are dropped by high-level monsters in relatively small quantities, so generally the best way to get them is to craft them.

To access the Wrath Altar, players will need to wear the Runecraft cape, get a wrath talisman dropped by Vorkath, adamant dragons, or rune dragons, use a catalytic talisman or tiara obtained from Guardians of the Rift, or attune a hat of the eye with a wrath tiara or catalytic tiara. Players will also need a lot of noted pure essence, which can be obtained through training Slayer. For the fastest rates, players will also need to get all the essence pouches for carrying more pure essence per lap. Having the ornate rejuvenation pool in the player-owned house is also recommended for restoring Hitpoints and run energy.

This method is potentially dangerous, as players will need to run past high-level dragons. It is strongly recommended not to store items at an Item Retrieval Service, as it is very possible to die to an untimely disconnection.

Experience rates can vary depending on the inventory setup and the available teleport to unnote essence. Players can gain up to around 27,000 experience per hour when wearing the Runecraft cape and using the Crafting cape to unnote essence at the Crafting Guild bank chest.

Pickaxes up to rune can be bought from Nurmof’s Pickaxe Shop.
Fastest experience

Levels 15–45: Iron ore

Mining iron rocks north-east of East Ardougne, at the Legends’ Guild mine, a player can use the fairy rings to teleport to the Chasm of Fire in Great Kourend (D-J-R) for quick banking. Afterward, they can teleport back to the Legends’ Guild mine (B-L-R) and continue mining until granite becomes available. Players having trouble with tick manipulation can continue to mine iron in Ardougne or the Mining Guild which becomes available at Level 60.

Alternatively, the iron rocks at the mine south-west of Port Piscarilius offer similar rates, albeit lacking a triangle-arrangement of rocks. If The Forsaken Tower is not completed, players should bring coins to pay the 20 coin fee to bank in Lovakengj via the Lovakengj Minecart Network before again taking the cart back. This method may be of particular use for players with low combat level (no bears), players with a low Agility stat/no Graceful, or players who have not yet finished the Easy tier of the Ardougne diary.

Levels 45–99: 3-tick mining granite

3-tick mining granite rocks is the fastest mining experience in the game. It might be easier to start at a higher Mining level, as it’s harder to learn at the lower levels. While tick manipulating granite is a very hard method, it’s well worth learning.

Other methods

Levels 61–99: Iron ore

With a dragon pickaxe, you can earn over 82,000 Mining experience per hour in the Mining Guild by mining iron, since you can react to the rock depleting in 2-ticks, making it a decent alternative to granite. Mining Iron Ore in the Mining Guild is also an effective way of earning the Expert mining gloves.

Levels 35–99: Sandstone

Players can get a lot of Mining experience from mining sandstone, which can be exchanged for buckets of sand for Crafting training.

Levels 41–99: Calcified rocks

Players that have access to the city of Cam Torum can mine calcified rocks for a low-effort training method that contributes to Prayer training rather than Smithing and Crafting. Calcified rocks yield blessed bone shards, which are used to train Prayer by sacrificing them in the libation bowl at the Teomat.

Levels 55–99: Motherlode Mine

The Motherlode Mine becomes available at level 30, and is moderately efficient at level 55. Players may wish to spend some time here to earn golden nuggets to exchange for the prospector kit, coal bag and gem bag.

Ore veins are mined for pay-dirt which is then washed to obtain a mixed variety of coal, golden nuggets and ore available to the player at their current Mining level. Many ironmen utilise this ore at the Blast Furnace since all of the ores collected here are, notably, inefficient to mine elsewhere on their own such as coal rocks, gold rocks, and mithril rocks.

Levels 85–99: Volcanic Mine

At level 85, the Volcanic Mine becomes viable. It’s advisable to obtain the prospector kit beforehand.

Levels 10–99: Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars are an extremely low intensity mining alternative, albeit with somewhat reduced experience rates compared to most other methods. They can be found periodically in various locations across Gielinor, with each server having different locations, timings and tiers.

Instead of ores, shooting stars provide stardust which can be traded at Dusuri’s Star Shop for a few different useful rewards. Notably for ironmen are the celestial ring (2000 stardust), which gives the player a hidden +4 mining boost (even when uncharged), and the bag full of gems (300 stardust) which rewards the player with 40 uncut gems of varying types. These gems provide a source of passive crafting experience and jewellery resources, including a great low risk way to obtain dragonstones, even from a low level. It’s recommended to obtain the celestial ring first for the additional mining boost before beginning to collect gem bags for crafting.

Shooting stars, like normal ore veins, also offer gems (at an increased rate with a charged amulet of glory), as well as clue geodes.
