MOBILE INTERFACE CHANGES

We’ve made some tweaks to the appearance of the Home Screen on mobile. Basically, we’ve switched up the layout to make certain things more visible, including your player name, currencies, and the number of the world you’re on.

We’ve also removed the ‘Store’ button on the HUD.

Rest assured, we’re paying close attention to all your feedback, and our mobile teams are working on more improvements as we speak. Keep those ears to the ground!

Update: 15:00 Game Time (17/06/2021)

Hello ‘Scapers,

We will shortly be releasing another, small Android update as part of our final preparations for our official launch later today. This new Update will be required to play, and we’ll let you know as soon as it’s available so you can start your download.

As part of this update, our Android Open Beta will finally come to an end. If you were a Beta participant, you’ll be asked to re-download the game in order to be in sync with future updates for RuneScape.

Nothing about your experience will change or be impacted by the switchover – however, any reviews left before yesterday’s release are unfortunately not carried over to the game. We saw so many great reviews that clearly had a lot of effort put into them during the Beta program, and we hope to see your thoughts on the final release in our reviews too (which you can do anytime after downloading this new update). Thank you so much for all the feedback, praising and constructive, throughout the Beta.

As we close in on the official launch, we also want to say a quick thank you to everyone who joined us early over the last 20 hours or so. The scale of players entering the game has been mindblowing, and we can’t wait to welcome more of you over the weekend now that these early issues are resolved. We’ll see you in Burthorpe!

Update: 9:00 Game Time (17/06/2021)

Overnight, we have worked with our partners at Google to enable more capacity for simultaneous Google Account logins during periods of high demand. This should result in no further disruptions for logins associated to Google Accounts.

While most issues have been mitigated at this time, we’ll be continuing to work on further improvements based on yesterday’s learnings. We’ll keep you updated with any further releases.

With the release of our Android update and mitigation for the loading issues this evening, we’ve seen a notable reduction in the volume of issues encountered on Mobile.

We’ve also just released a hotfix to address instances where players can get stuck on the Character Creation process. If you were stuck in this spot, please retry now.

Our team will now take the time to regroup and continue tomorrow to further eliminate these issues, which will make this our last update for this evening. Thanks again for your patience.

We have no major updates to share for this hourly update. Our team are continuing to actively work on the issues. We’re seeing improved results from the steps we’ve taken to mitigate loading and cache issues, but we’re still working on the root cause. Thanks ever so much for the continued patience – we’ll provide another update in an hour.

Update: 19:40 Game Time (16/06/2021)

A new Android Client Update is now available. Please download this update from the Google Play Store if you are experiencing issues – this may resolve or reduce them. We still highly recommend allowing your cache to load fully in the lobby before playing.

We have also implemented some temporary steps to help improving loading and cache issues. Initial results have improved load times, but work is still ongoing to fully resolve the situation.

We’ve been blown away by the amount of people downloading RuneScape on Mobile. Unfortunately however, due to the large quantity of people downloading the app we’re experiencing some issues that may cause slow loading or login issues.

RuneScape Mobile is officially scheduled to launch this afternoon at 16.00 Game Time, June 17th 2021! For those who are stepping into Gielinor for the first time or veteran cape owners looking to play on the go, here is all of the information you will need to get started.

INSTALLING THE GAME

RuneScape for mobile is available on both on iOS and Android and can be downloaded for free.

Simply navigate to the store pages linked above, download RuneScape… and you’re good to go! It’s as easy as that. If you pre-registered, you’ll be notified when the game is ready to play.

CLAIMING REGISTRATION REWARDS

Thanks to your incredible support, all registration rewards have been unlocked!

To claim your rewards, you’ll need to log into the game on your mobile device. Keep reading for detailed instructions on finding your rewards on both mobile and desktop.  

Your 50% XP Buff has already been activated, and will expire at 00:00 Game Time on June 24^th.

HOW TO ACCESS YOUR REGISTRATION REWARDS ON MOBILE:

• Log in to the game and enter a game world.
  • If you haven’t already, you must complete the Davendale tutorial before you can claim your rewards.
• Press the Home button in the top left-hand corner of your screen.
• Press the Mask button on the left-hand side of the Home Screen. This is the second button from the top.
• Your Customisation items can be found in these menus. We recommend setting the filters to ‘owned’ or using the Search Bar to filter out items you don’t have.

PLAYING THE GAME

Welcome to Gielinor! Those of you who are new here will be prompted to create an account when you open RuneScape on mobile for the first time. Enter your account details and follow the instructions.

Your story begins in our brand-new mobile tutorial, set in the quiet town of Davendale. You’ll be guided through the mobile controls and learn about basic gameplay, including combat and skilling. You’ll also get to create your character. Once you’re done, you’ll be fighting fit to explore the wonderful world of RuneScape.

Want to learn more? There’s loads of help available for players both old and new! We recommend the Official RuneScape Beginners’ Guide, which gives an overview of the game’s key features.

For information on specific aspects of the game, the RuneScape Wiki is a fantastic resource with details on everything in the world of Gielinor – and best of all, it can be accessed in-game! Just use the /wiki command to bring up the information directly. The wiki’s own guide for new players is another great place to check as well.

MAXIMIZING FPS AND/OR BATTERY LIFE

RuneScape on Mobile contains customisable graphics options to help you get the most out of your experience – whether you want to save battery life or improve performance.

You can access the graphics settings through:

• Logged Out / Lobby: Click the Menu Button in the top left, then select Graphics Options
• In-Game: Click the Home button in the top left, then click Settings in the bottom right – then select the Graphics tab.

If you are experiencing FPS issues or want RuneScape to use less battery, we recommend turning on the Power Save Mode as a first step. This should improve FPS performance and battery performance in almost all circumstances.

If you are still not experiencing the desired performance, click the ‘Advanced Options’ box at the bottom of the page. This will give you individual control over a variety of graphical features, and allow you to turn down the quality of these features to improve performance.

Hey ‘Scapers,

Today is a significant moment in RuneScape’s history, ushering in the next chapter of our cross-play vision and our quest to bring RuneScape to everywhere we can. We have finally arrived on Mobile!

Moments ago, we finished our final pre-launch checks and they are all green. Deployment of RuneScape around the world has begun, marking June 17th as our official launch day for iOS and Android.

Taking it all in, this is really a big deal. You can play 20 years of RuneScape content on the world’s largest gaming platform and it all fits in your pocket. Play on the go and then jump over to desktop if you like, with nearly the same experience, taking everything with you – almost unthinkable!

This is my favorite part… the RuneScape community has been growing in leaps and bounds. Our expectations with the launch on Steam last year were smashed, and by reaching new audiences with mobile, a Tsunami of new citizens are about to embark upon the thriving world of Gielinor. What an amazing opportunity to make new friends and I cannot wait to hear the tales of discovery and accomplishment.

In our mission to find new adventurers and to influence a successful launch on mobile, you helped us smash the last of the pre-registration goals. In fact, all five tiers have now been unlocked (actually, it was yesterday!) and we just hit 1.8 MILLION registrations in total. What a feat! So, all those sweet rewards have been unlocked and will be delivered to you as part of the launch – yes, they are on the way for everyone!

In my mind, there is no better time to play RuneScape. Over the coming months the Elder God Wars really heats up with the City of Senntisten launching next week. We have told you War is Coming, and I am excited to confirm War is Here this July with the first front of the Elder God Wars Dungeon. The fate of Gielinor will be decided across four fronts and each month from July onwards, players will experience a new front on the battlefield as the Elder Gods begin their assault. This will be the most varied and epic dungeon experiences yet, with elements that span across bossing, slayer, skilling and more! This is on top of the returning updates from our Ninja Team, fan-favourite events like The Beach, several technical improvements and other surprises to come that will make this a summer to remember.

Just before signing off, I’d like to leave you with one last thought.

These are fantastical times and this year, RuneScape has been in existence for 20 years. We broke several records, and membership is at its highest level in six years. Players are playing the game more than ever before. And then I think back to this.

With moments like these, knowing how much effort our team put into this launch, makes me proud of this achievement – knowing we can make RuneScape for many more years to come, and that it’s something we can do together!
