Construction unlocks various options for storing items. This makes it one of the most useful skills to train for ultimate ironmen. The storage options are centred primarily around the Costume Room in the player-owned house, where furniture like the magic wardrobe, armour case, and cape rack can be used to store a number of useful pieces of equipment. Construction also gives access to STASH units around the world, which can store a variety of useful items like the Slayer helmet, dragon axe, and abyssal whip.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Item Management.

Construction is also extremely useful as a way to travel around the world. At level 50, players can build the Portal chamber and build portals to teleport to various locations. Other furniture like the jewellery box, mounted amulet of glory, and mounted mythical cape serve a similar purpose of making travel around the world much quicker and easier. The Construction cape is also one of the most useful and desired skillcapes for any Ultimate Ironman, because it allows the player to infinitely teleport the player to their player-owned house and any POH portals, regardless of the spellbook they are on.

When training Construction, it is strongly recommended to store items at an Item Retrieval Service for more inventory space.

Useful milestones

Early training methods

In order to train Construction, players must have purchased a player-owned house at an Estate agent. Alternatively, players can complete Daddy’s Home miniquest, which also grants some Construction experience and some Construction materials.

Levels: 1–17: Quests

Early levels can be skipped by completing Daddy’s Home miniquest, X Marks the Spot, and Client of Kourend and putting the experience lamps on Construction. This will grant a total of 2,244 Construction experience, which is enough to get to level 14. The Tower of Life (requires level 10 Construction) grants an additional 1,000 Construction experience upon completion, which would get the player up to level 17.

Entrana

An alternative but a very slow method to get the early levels is to pick up planks on Entrana and build low-level furniture in the player-owned house. This method is only recommended for getting the level 10 Construction requirement for the Tower of Life quest. Players will need to have nails for this method, which can be bought at the sawmill north-east of Varrock.

With a house in Rimmington, run to Port Sarim, travel to Entrana, and pick up planks on the north side of the island. Switch worlds as necessary. With a full inventory, return to the player-owned house and build some low-level furniture with the planks.

Clay fireplaces

Clay fireplaces can be built with three soft clay, a hammer and a saw at level 3 Construction. Bulk soft clay can be easily obtained from mining shooting stars, with the resulting Stardust used to purchase Soft clay packs from Dusuri’s Star Shop in Falador at a price of 150 dust for 100 soft clay. If going from 8 Construction from Daddy’s Home, one would expect to need 1350 Stardust, or 9 Soft clay packs to get to level 27 for easy S.T.A.S.H units.

Wintertodt

Subduing Wintertodt offers passive Construction experience from fixing the braziers. Because Wintertodt has relatively few requirements and it offers very useful rewards for low-level players, it is one of the best ways to bypass most of the early Construction levels. It is strongly recommended to get some levels beforehand, as fixing a brazier rewards four times the player’s Construction level in experience, and this scaling affects the experience gained much more at lower levels than higher.

The amount of Construction experience gained depends on the player’s method of doing the activity. While fighting the Wintertodt in a group rewards faster Firemaking experience, it is recommended for ultimate ironman players to fight it alone or in small groups, as it offers more opportunities to repair the braziers for Construction experience.

Assuming the player does solo rounds, levelling Firemaking from level 50 to 99 would get the player up to around level 70 Construction. Getting level 60 Woodcutting through Wintertodt, which would likely be achieved at around level 89–90 Firemaking would get the player up to around level 55–58 Construction. Level 50 Construction would be achieved at around 82–83 Firemaking.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Firemaking.

Levels 1–99: Mahogany Homes

Completing contracts for Mahogany Homes is one of the fastest Construction training methods for ultimate ironmen. It is also cheaper than the other methods, which makes this method very accessible.

Completing Mahogany Homes contracts effectively requires some preparation. The items and unlocks needed and recommended are listed below:

Best axe available for cutting logs (rune axe or better recommended)

Saw, hammer, and coins

Teleports to Falador, Varrock, and Ardougne

A teleport method to Hosidius, such as the Xeric’s talisman or its mounted version, book of the dead (or Kharedst’s memoirs), or having the player-owned house in Hosidius

Rune pouch to save inventory space (recommended)

Noted steel bars (optional but recommended)

Noted planks (optional; noted oak, teak and mahogany planks can be obtained from killing gang members in the Shayzien Tackling Organized Crime activity as a common drop)

Plank sack (unlocked through completing contracts)

Log basket, optional. Purchasable through Forestry Shop, the log basket allows up to 28 logs to be stored and is useful for reducing the amount of trips between the sawmill and trees. Logs can be removed by following the dialogue accessed via the *check* right-click option. The log basket can later be stored in the magic wardrobe of a player-owned house.

Players should get the plank sack as soon as possible, as it will increase experience rates. The plank sack is untradeable and usually disposed after finishing training, so it is recommended to have enough points to buy a new one when the player is going to train Construction again.

Extra carpenter points are best spent on supply crates, as they give Construction materials.

Completing novice contracts for Mahogany Homes is one of the fastest training methods at lower levels. It is also very cheap, costing around 1.33 coins per experience, and has relatively few requirements.

For this method, it is strongly recommended to get the ring of the elements from the Guardians of the Rift minigame. The ring provides the fastest access to the Varrock sawmill. Players who do not have the ring of the elements can use the balloon route from Taverley to Varrock to get there, though this will be slower. Having noted steel bars increases experience rates slightly, but they are not necessary. The method below assumes the player does not have any noted steel bars.

Experience rates can vary depending on inventory space, available teleports, and unlocks. The rates listed below assume having no noted steel bars and 3-ticking the oaks to cut them slightly faster.

This method goes as follows:

Minigame teleport to the Blast Furnace, and make steel bars.

Hop to a world that is not an official Blast Furnace world.

Buy enough inventories of coal and iron ore to make 28 steel bars, and put them into the conveyor belt.

Hop to a Blast Furnace world to make steel bars. Cool the dispenser with a bucket of water.

Withdraw steel bars from the dispenser. Without the plank sack, withdraw 4 steel bars; with the plank sack, withdraw 8 steel bars.

Teleport to the Earth Altar with the ring of the elements and run slightly north.

If using the balloon, teleport to Taverley, run south-east to the balloon, and take the route to the Varrock sawmill.

If your house is in Hosidius, use a ring of dueling to teleport to Castle Wars and use the balloon there.

Completing adept contracts for Mahogany Homes is one of the fastest training methods for Ultimate Ironmen. While cutting teaks in Prifddinas and building mounted mythical capes is faster when using tick manipulation, this method is much cheaper, costing around 1.8 coins per experience.

Players will need to have completed Song of the Elves for access to the teak trees in Prifddinas, which are located right next to the sawmill. The fastest way to get there is to use a spirit tree to Prifddinas and run east taking the southern route through the crystal tree patch. The spirit tree in the player-owned house is the best one to use, and building one requires level 75 Construction and level 83 Farming (both boostable). Alternatively, players can use Varrock Teleport to the Grand Exchange and use the spirit tree from there, which is slightly slower.

This method also requires a decent amount of noted steel bars. They can be obtained through Slayer training or from Zalcano. Players will also profit steel bars from buying and opening supply crates, so they can start with a small stack of noted steel bars and buy the crates as they go.

With good practice and when using the plank sack, players can gain up to around 95,000 Construction and 25,000 Woodcutting experience per hour. At level 99, it is possible to gain up to 115,000 Construction experience per hour when using the Construction cape, NPC Contact, and tick manipulation.

This method goes as follows:

Cut an inventory of teak logs near the sawmill in Prifddinas and make them into planks. If you have the plank sack, cut more teak logs and make them into planks until you have your inventory and the plank sack filled with teak planks. Optionally you can leave 2–3 inventory spaces empty for steel bars.

Teleport to Falador, and get a contract from Amy. If you already have a contract, go to the location of your current contract. If needed, unnote 2–3 steel bars at the closest available bank for your contract.

Complete your contract, drink the tea to restore run energy if needed.

Get another contract by either going to the contract agent in the town you are in. If you are far from the NPC, teleport to Falador and talk to Amy.

Repeat this until you run out or nearly run out of planks. Unnote more steel bars as needed.

When you have run out of planks, use a spirit tree to teleport back to Prifddinas, and repeat the process.

Cutting oak logs and building oak furniture is one of the best training methods for lower levels. Players will need to have completed Enlightened Journey and have unlocked the balloon route to Varrock for this method, as it provides a reasonably fast transportation to the sawmill.

For this method, players will need to have their player-owned house in Taverley, and have unlocked the balloon routes to Taverley and Varrock. It is best to have 24 inventory spaces for the planks, which is only possible with the rune pouch, as this allows the player to build 3 oak larders per trip. This method is still viable without the rune pouch, however players will get slightly lower rates with only 22 inventory spaces instead of 24. It is also recommended to have the graceful outfit for weight reduction and faster run energy restoration, as this method involves a lot of running.

Using the Balloon transport system to the sawmill requires a payment of willow logs. There is a crate near the balloon where the player can store up to 100 logs. When you run out, there are some trees nearby for you to fill the crate.

This method goes as follows:

Cut an inventory of oak logs near the Lumber Yard sawmill.

Convert the logs into planks at the sawmill.

Teleport outside of your player-owned house and enter it in building mode.

Build and remove oak furniture until you have run out of oak planks.

With 24 oak planks, build and remove 3 oak larders in the Kitchen.

With 22 oak planks, build and remove 3 carved oak tables and 1 oak dining table in the Dining room.

Exit the house, run south-east to the balloon, and take the route to the Varrock sawmill.

Repeat the process, and get more willow logs for the balloon whenever needed.

Alternatively you can skip the balloon route back to Barrack and the collection of willow logs by obtaining the Ring of the Elements from the Guardian of the Rift Minigame. Allowing you to teleport just South-West of the Saw mill.

Tick manipulation can be used to cut the logs faster, which increases experience rates slightly. Players should drop the tick manipulation items at the trees and pick them up again on every lap.

Players can gain up to around 40,000 Construction experience per hour when not using tick manipulation. With tick manipulation, it is possible to gain up to 50,000 experience per hour. The experience rate is dependent on the Woodcutting level, so expect lower rates at below level 61 Woodcutting. This method costs around 4 coins per experience.

Buying limestone bricks from Razmire Keelgan and building limestone attack stones is a relatively fast and cheap training method before players have unlocked Prifddinas. However, it is somewhat click-intensive, and no Woodcutting experience is gained from doing it which makes the method less efficient overall than the other methods.

This method requires level 59 Construction, completion of the hard tasks in the Morytania Diary, 20 free inventory spaces, having used a serum 208 dose on Razmire Keelgan, and a flamtaer bag. It is also recommended to have the graceful outfit and/or revitalisation pool or higher in the player-owned house.

Suiciding with the Flamtaer bag will cause it to break, so it is required to store any items in an Item Retrieval Service before getting your Flamtaer bag, if planning to store any items that way. Acquiring a Flamtaer bag requires playing the Shades of Mort’ton (minigame) which is a dangerous activity requiring combat, so use caution when preparing to train this way.

This method goes as follows:

Left-click Razmire Keelgan to gain access to his builder’s store.

Buy a total of 80 limestone bricks from Razmire Keelgan using the right-click Trade-Builders-Store option, 20 bricks at a time and filling the Flamtaer bag after each purchase until it is full.

Teleport to your player-owned house (In Settings->House Options, set ‘Teleport Inside’ and ‘Default Building Mode’ to on).

Build and remove limestone attack stones until you have run out of limestone bricks.

Teleport to Burgh de Rott using the Morytania legs and exit the gate north. While interacting with the gate, hop worlds.

Run north to Mort’ton, and repeat the process.

Players can gain up to 80,000 Construction experience per hour, although players are likely to see rates of 70,000–75,000 Construction experience per hour when including mistakes. This method costs around 2.7 coins per experience.

Cutting teak trees in Prifddinas and building mounted mythical capes is the fastest way to train Construction when using tick manipulation. However, it is more expensive than completing contracts for Mahogany Homes, costing around 4.05 coins per experience. Without tick manipulation, this method is only recommended for players who are seeking for a more straightforward alternative to Mahogany Homes and do not mind spending extra money.

Players must have completed Song of the Elves to access Prifddinas and Dragon Slayer II to be able to build mounted mythical capes. Players will also need to have built a spirit tree inside of the player-owned house for faster access to the teak trees. Building one requires level 75 Construction and level 83 Farming, both of which can be boosted. The plank sack is also needed for the fastest experience rates.

It is generally best to wear the Lumberjack outfit for extra Woodcutting experience. The carpenter’s outfit is not worth getting, but it is worth using over the Lumberjack outfit if the player already has it.

Having a total of 48 spaces for the planks is optimal. Players who wish to keep the crystal shards for later use will only have enough space for 45 planks, though this would also free up 2 inventory spaces for other items, such as for the seed box and the looting bag for herb runs. If using a crystal axe for this method, players will slightly profit crystal shards over time.

This method goes as follows:

Cut an inventory of teak logs, and make them into planks at the nearby sawmill. Repeat until your inventory and plank sack are full of teak planks.

Teleport outside of your player-owned house and enter it in building mode.

Build and remove mounted mythical capes until you have run out of teak planks.

Use the spirit tree in your player-owned house to Prifddinas, and run east to the grove of teak trees using the southern path. Repeat the process.

Experience rates scale depending on the Woodcutting level. At level 99 Woodcutting and when wearing the Lumberjack outfit, players can gain up to 100,000 Construction and 70,000 Woodcutting experience per hour. Using the crystal axe will offer around 3% faster rates. Without tick manipulation, players can expect to gain around 78,000 Construction and 54,000 Woodcutting experience per hour.

Tackling organised crime

The gangsters from the Tackle organised crime activity can be killed for common drops of noted oak, teak, and mahogany planks. This is an alternative way to get planks without cutting logs and using the sawmill and provides additional combat experience. The planks are best used for doing Mahogany Homes, as it offers the highest experience per plank. As the event is timed and most worlds are within seconds of each other, using a Dwarf multicannon and hopping increases the number of planks and intelligence per event, usually resulting in a full inventory after the 5 minutes of the event is up. However, acquiring cannonballs (for example, using the Blast Furnace for the ores and bars and making the cannonballs themselves at the Falador furnace) takes time, resulting in a lower rate of overall Construction experience, while providing additional combat and smithing experience.

Woodcutting can be trained in a number of ways, including simply cutting and dropping the logs, training it in tandem with Construction, or training it passively through activities like the Wintertodt. Woodcutting is most useful as a source for Construction planks of all levels, though it can also be useful for Firemaking and Fletching training in some cases. Low level axes to train the skill can be most easily bought from Bob’s Brilliant Axes in Lumbridge, with high level axes being available at Perry’s Chop-chop Shop at the Woodcutting Guild.

Early training: Quests

Some easy quests reward Woodcutting experience, and can be used to jump-start training the skill past the slow, early levels. Even just completing the very easy Monk’s Friend quest gives almost enough experience to reach level 15 Woodcutting, at which point the player can cut oak trees.

Icthlarin’s Little Helper requires Gertrude’s Cat, rewards 4,000 Woodcutting experience

Active training methods

At lower levels, players are advised to burn the logs for Firemaking experience up to level 50 Firemaking. Otherwise, players should drop the logs, or fletch them into arrow shafts if the player needs them for Fletching training.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Firemaking and Ultimate Ironman Guide/Fletching.

Levels 1–15: Regular trees

From level 1 to 15, cut regular trees.

Levels 15–35/35-65: Oak trees

From level 15 to 35, cut oak trees. Players should cut them in a location with two or more oaks one tile apart and alternate clicking between the two trees to allow for near-constant training.

Experience rates will vary depending on level, the type of axe the player is using, and how much time is spent lighting the logs for Firemaking training. When using a steel axe, players can gain up to around 20,000 Woodcutting experience per hour if dropping the logs. With an adamant axe, it is possible to gain up to 29,000 Woodcutting experience per hour.

Even though willow trees become available at level 30, cutting oak logs offers faster experience at these levels. This method is slower than Teak trees at levels above 35, but if not using tick manipulation, Oak trees still give the highest experience rates until level 65, over 40,000 Woodcutting experience per hour at level 50+. Players can use an unfocused form of tick manipulation where they stand between two trees that are 1 tile apart and simply alternate clicking each tree every tick, which yields slightly better rates than chopping the same tree. Players should drop their logs when both trees are downed simultaneously, or when their inventory is full.

Levels 35–99: Teak trees

2-tick woodcutting on Ape Atoll.

Cutting teak trees offers the fastest experience in the game when using tick manipulation. The best locations for cutting teak trees are on Ape Atoll, where two Teak trees can be cut in rapid succession, and on Fossil Island, where planted teak trees (requires level 35 Farming) can be planted near to each other for fast Woodcutting. Chopping Teak trees is often paired with tick manipulation methods, which allow for increased experience rates. With “2-tick” Woodcutting on Ape Atoll, players can expect experience rates of up to 185,000 Woodcutting experience per hour, and on Fossil Island, so-called “1.5-tick” Woodcutting can reach up to 210,000 Woodcutting experience per hour, depending on the player’s Woodcutting level and equipment.

Levels 65–99: Sulliuscep

Cutting sulliuscep mushroom trees on Fossil Island offers the fastest experience when not using any sort of tick manipulation. Players must have completed Bone Voyage for this method. Additionally, a high Hitpoints level is recommended to prolong trips. Due to the damage taken from monsters with this method of training, an absolute minimum of 12 Hitpoints (one above the maximum hit of Tar Monsters) is strongly recommended.

Experience rates scale depending on the Woodcutting level. At level 75, players can gain up to around 80,000 Woodcutting experience per hour, increasing to around 97,000 experience per hour at level 90 and 100,000–110,000 experience per hour at level 99. In total, to achieve level 99 Woodcutting from 65, you will have to cut 97,778 sulliusceps assuming you wear the lumberjack outfit.

Assuming players keep the sulliuscep caps, the numulite and unidentified fossils, on average they will receive 978 sulliuscep caps, around 264,000 numulite, 1394 unidentified small fossils, 698 unidentified medium fossils, 559 unidentified large fossils and 140 unidentified rare fossils. Furthermore, 120,000 experience in a skill of choice is obtained from completing the fossil exhibit in the Varrock Museum, which leaves you with 1,324 small, 638 medium, 509 large and 140 rare fossils. These can be cleaned and used at the mycelium pool to calcify them using pyrophosphite and calcite. The recalcified bones can then be used on the easternmost strange machine in the House on the Hill for a total of 2,031,750 experience. The remaining 254 plant fossils may be traded in for another 76,000 numulite. Alternatively, if you do not clean the unidentified large fossils, they are guaranteed to work in the mycelium pool without risking the chance of them becoming plant fossils.

Levels 62–90: Blisterwood tree

At level 62, with partial completion of Sins of the Father players are able to chop the blisterwood tree in Darkmeyer, gaining up to around 65,000 Woodcutting experience per hour prior to level 90. Chopping the blisterwood tree offers experience rates comparable to teak trees without manipulation, but is significantly less attention and click intensive. The blisterwood tree provides 76 experience per log chopped, and never depletes. Occasionally, the player will stop cutting the tree, and will need to click again to resume cutting, similar to with Redwood trees. Blisterwood logs granting 96 Firemaking experience when burned.

Levels 90–99: Redwood trees

Cutting redwood trees in the Woodcutting Guild requires very little attention and it offers relatively decent experience. Players can also fletch the redwood logs into arrow shafts, which could be useful for players looking to train Fletching by making arrows.

Players can gain up to around 65,000 Woodcutting experience per hour when using the dragon axe, and 75,000–80,000 experience per hour when using the crystal axe.

Passive training methods

Wintertodt

Players fighting the Wintertodt.

While training Firemaking at the Wintertodt, each bruma root chopped gives 0.3 times the player’s Woodcutting level per root. Because of this, a significant portion of a player’s early Woodcutting experience can potentially be gained passively while training here.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Firemaking.

Construction

After completion of the Bone Voyage quest and with level 35 Farming, it is possible to grow teak trees from teak seeds on Fossil Island. These trees regrow quickly and can be cut very fast, especially if using tick manipulation to quickly move between trees. Cutting teak logs here and using them in Construction training is a very efficient way to train the skill, and gives a significant amount of Woodcutting experience along the way.

If training construction by making mounted Mythical capes, the player should expect about 70,000 Woodcutting experience per 100,000 Construction experience. If the player is training construction by making any other teak furniture (such as teak garden benches), they should expect about 95,000 Woodcutting experience per 100,000 Construction experience.

In addition, some players opt to return to oak trees after the completion of the Enlightened Journey quest and the unlocking of the Varrock balloon route (requires willow logs, so not particularly viable until after 30 Woodcutting). With that route unlocked, cutting oak logs and turning them into oak planks at the Lumber Yard sawmill is a solid method of training Construction, and gives a bit of Woodcutting experience along the way.

Fletching is trained primarily through making broad arrows while doing other activities. Because the supplies required to make arrows are all stackable, it is relatively easy to make room for them in most inventory setups for a variety of situations. All the supplies can be quickly bought in bulk, which makes fletching arrows a much more effective training method than fletching darts, bolts, or bows. However, doing so can cost a lot of money.

Fletching is needed for making high-level Ranged weapons and ammo for use in Ranged combat.

General information and tips

Arrows, darts, and bolts can be made while doing other activities. For the best efficiency, they should be made during activities which do not require full inventory space and provide downtime that allows fletching the ammo. Such activities include:

Questing

Training Agility at the Hallowed Sepulchre

Training Thieving by stealing artefacts

Subduing Wintertodt

Hunting chinchompas

Tracking herbiboars

Training Runecraft at the Guardians of the Rift or by crafting blood or soul runes in Arceuus

Making jugs of wine

Training Prayer at Pest Control

Chinning maniacal monkeys (only viable with darts and bolts)

Arrow shafts can be bought from the Dargaud’s Bow and Arrows. in the Ranging Guild. They cost 4.5 coins each if buying the full stock per world, and up to 500,000 arrow shafts can be bought per hour if there is no competition for stock. Alternatively, players can fletch the arrow shafts from noted logs. Cutting the logs is only recommended as a low-effort alternative if the player does not have any noted logs; if doing so, willow logs are recommended for lower levels and redwood logs for higher.

Feathers can be bought in bulk through feather packs. The best shops to buy feather packs from are Fishing Guild Shop. in the Fishing Guild, Gerrant’s Fishy Business. in Port Sarim, and Ishmael’s Fish He Sells in the Ruins of Unkah. Feathers cost 3–3.5 coins each on average when buying full stock of feather packs.

Training methods

Levels 1–52: Starting off

Headless arrows are made by attaching feathers to arrow shafts. They give 1 Fletching experience per headless arrow made. This is a relatively slow training method by itself, but is useful if the player plans on training Fletching by making broad arrows at a higher level.

To reach level 52, the player would need to make 123,660 headless arrows. This would cost around 375,000 coins. Fewer arrows are needed if the arrow shafts are cut from logs.

Headless arrows can be made into arrows by attaching arrowtips to them. Arrowtips can be bought from Hickton’s Archery Emporium. in Catherby.

Levels 52–99: Broad arrows

A broad arrowhead pack.

Fletching broad arrows becomes the most efficient training method at level 52. While the arrows are not very useful for anything, broad arrowheads can be bought much faster than any other arrowtips through broad arrowhead packs, and they offer relatively high experience per arrow. However, this method is expensive, costing around 5.93 coins per experience.

To fletch broad arrows, players must have purchased the Broader Fletching perk for 300 Slayer reward points. Broad arrowhead packs can be bought from any Slayer master.

Each broad arrow made gives 11 experience, including the experience gained from making the headless arrow. If the arrow shafts are fletched from logs, each broad arrow would give 11.33 experience. Reaching level 99 from level 52 would require making 1,174,000 broad arrows, including the experience gained from making the headless arrows. This would cost around 76,600,000 coins.

Other

Wintertodt

Training Firemaking at Wintertodt can give some passive Fletching experience. Fletching a bruma root into bruma kindling give 0.6 times the player’s Fletching level in experience, so the experience rates are heavily dependent on the player’s current Fletching level.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Firemaking.

Darts

High-level players who use the toxic blowpipe will need to make darts to use it. Amethyst and rune darts are generally the best ones to make, as they can be obtained in relatively large quantities. Using lower-tier darts, such as adamant, is only recommended for short-term use as they are a lot weaker.

Gathering amethyst darts requires level 92 Mining to mine the amethyst, level 89 Crafting to chisel the amethyst into dart tips, and level 90 Fletching to feather the dart tips. Players can gather around 660–780 dart tips per hour depending on the Mining level.

Making rune darts out of bars or ores requires level 89 Smithing along with level 81 Fletching. They are only slightly weaker than amethyst, and can be obtained much faster than amethyst darts. However, players will miss out on a lot of cash from not making alchable items instead of rune darts (such as rune swords), effectively making them very expensive.

Adamant darts are an alternative to amethyst or rune darts for players who lack the requirements to make them. However, they offer much lower damage output, so they are generally not recommended for long-term use. Adamantite can be obtained from Zalcano, Zulrah, Vorkath, the Chambers of Xeric, and the Theatre of Blood.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Smithing.

Arrow Shafts from Noted Logs

If the ranging guild’s arrow shafts are sold out, arrow shafts can instead be fletched from noted yew logs or magic logs.

The arrow shafts should then be processed further into broad arrows.

It also has the potential for money-making through the Agility Pyramid at lower levels, and looting the coffins in the Hallowed Sepulchre at higher. Agility also provides access to the graceful outfit, the ring of endurance, and stamina potions.

Ultimate Ironmen may find it difficult to fully take advantage of the Hallowed Sepulchre, though given how important the Ring of endurance is to run energy management it is recommended to always loot the Grand Hallowed Coffin.

Training Fishing with Barbarian Fishing gives small amounts of passive Agility and Strength experience. For every 100,000 Fishing experience gained through Barbarian Fishing, the player should expect about 9,000 Agility experience as well.

A player training on the Seers’ Village Rooftop Course.

Rooftop Agility Courses can be used from level 10 onwards. Training on these courses requires no inventory space or resources, and it can be done in almost any gear. The courses also provide marks of grace, which can be used to purchase the graceful outfit, and amylase crystals for stamina potions.

It should be noted that the Seers’ Village Rooftop Course is faster experience per hour than both the Pollnivneach Rooftop Course and Rellekka Rooftop Course, if using Camelot Teleport to teleport to the Seers’ Village bank with completion of the Hard Kandarin Diary.

Players who do not need marks of grace are advised to train at the Hallowed Sepulchre from level 52 onwards. The Hallowed Sepulchre offers faster experience, and it is also very profitable at higher levels. However, the Rooftop courses remain as a good low-effort alternative past level 52. They are also well-suited for Farming training due to the lack of inventory requirements, as Farming training often fills the inventory with plenty of seeds and produce.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Farming.

Levels 52–99: Hallowed Sepulchre

The Hallowed Sepulchre offers the fastest experience from level 52 onwards. It can also be very profitable at higher levels. These portal shortcuts are unique to each player, and grant the player a crystal shard.

Players can gain up to around 59,000 experience per hour at level 75, increasing to around 66,000 experience per hour from level 90 onwards. Players can also expect to find roughly 50 crystal shards per hour.

Thieving training on an ultimate ironman is relatively similar to that for regular accounts or an ironman. Most training methods require few items and little preparation to do effectively. This also makes the skill easy to train in conjunction with other inventory-stressful skills, most notably Farming. As a skill, Thieving is most useful as a source of coins and seeds through pickpocketing, as well as the Pharaoh’s sceptre from Pyramid Plunder.

There are a number of items that can be useful for Thieving training, most notably the Rogue equipment set, which doubles all loot from pickpocketing NPCs. It is highly recommended to get the set before training Thieving much past level 50, though it may be useful to wait until a high Construction level for access to easier storage in the player-owned house armour case. The Ardougne Diary also gives bonuses when pickpocketing NPCs, making them less likely to notice the player’s attempts.

Levels 1–5: Men/Women

From level 1 to 5, the only viable option is to pickpocket men or women around RuneScape. Low-level players who do not have many items on them and have their respawn point in Lumbridge do not need food for this, as they can pickpocket men/women around the Lumbridge Castle and simply let them kill you. Acquiring level 5 Thieving from pickpocketing men and women takes 49 successful pickpockets. Draynor Village has a house right by the Agility Course that has a man that you’re able to pickpocket while trapping him with the door closed, preventing him from moving away from you.

From level 5 to 25, the fastest experience is gained by stealing from bakery stalls in East Ardougne market or in the courtyard outside Kourend Castle. There is a safespot from the guards in East Ardougne, simply stand under the baker to the cake stall further east and the guards cannot spot you. The cake stall in the Kourend Castle courtyard also has a safespot where you cannot be spotted (unless a guard accidentally walks back there, which does not happen often) when stealing from behind it. Players can gain up to 19,200 Thieving experience per hour if dropping everything.

Even though the tea stall in Varrock is available at this level, it is significantly worse than cake stalls due to slower respawn.

Steal from both stalls as fast as possible and drop the fruit while running between them, eat the strange fruits you get or use stamina potions to replenish run energy.
Blackjacking bandits in Pollnivneach offers the fastest Thieving experience from level 45 onwards. While there are three different types of bandits the player can blackjack, the method is the same for all of them: knock out the bandit and pickpocket them twice while they are unconscious. If the player fails to knock out the bandit, they will hit the player for 4 Hitpoints and become aggressive. To counteract this, after failing the knock-out, quickly pickpocket the bandit with a full inventory before their first attack. This renders them unaggressive and the player may safely attempt another knock-out. Using healing items that leave behind another item after using allows keeping inventory full for this method to continue working.

For blackjacking, players must have completed The Feud quest and have a blackjack of any kind. The type of blackjack does not matter for blackjacking. Getting full rogue equipment at level 50 is recommended for double loot per pickpocket, though this does not increase experience rates.

The nearby bar sells wines which can be useful as a cheap source of healing and help keep inventory full. High-level players are advised to use Saradomin brews as they heal much more per inventory slot, allowing the player to sustain much longer before restocking. Vial smashing can be disabled so that inventory remains full. Wearing the Hitpoints cape is recommended for faster health regeneration if the player has one.

Experience rates are shown in the table below. The rates vary depending on performance and the type of food used.

From level 45 to 55, blackjack level 41 Bearded Pollnivnian bandits who are wielding a blackjack.

From level 55 to 65, blackjack level 56 Pollnivnian bandits who are wielding a scimitar.

From level 65 onwards, blackjack Menaphite Thugs located in the southern part of Pollnivneach.

Stealing artefacts in Port Piscarilius is a feasible alternative for players who prefer something less click-intensive, or for players who want to train Thieving while doing actions that can be done while moving. Such actions include blowing molten glass, fletching ammo, cutting gems, and burning logs.

Since this method involves constant running, players will need to use stamina potions to restore run energy. Having the graceful outfit and the ring of endurance is recommended. Alternatively, players can teleport to their house and use a revitalisation pool or higher to refill run energy, although this will lower experience rates slightly.

It is also strongly recommended to have completed A Kingdom Divided for the book of the dead, which offers a quick teleport to Port Piscarilius via The fisher’s flute option. Using this teleport to get closer to the houses will increase experience rates notably. Kharedst’s memoirs can also be used, but it holds fewer charges. The book can be recharged by inspecting the Old Memorial north of Land’s End. Players can get there using the Rada’s blessing teleport to the Kourend Woodland, or the Xeric’s talisman teleport to Xeric’s Lookout. Each charge requires 1 law, 1 soul, 1 mind, and 1 body rune.

Talk to Captain Khaled to engage in stealing artefacts from those living in the residential district.

Teleport to Fisher’s Flute with the book of the dead (or the Kharedst’s memoirs), and steal the artefact from drawers inside the assigned house.

Smuggle the artefact without attracting the attention of the patrollers.

Bring the stolen artefact to Captain Khaled, and repeat the process. Recharge the book of the dead whenever needed.

Each successful heist yields Thieving experience and 500–1,000 coins. Getting caught will lower experience rates fairly notably, so it is usually better to wait for an opportune moment to sneak past the patrollers than risk getting caught.

Experience rates are shown in the table below. With good practice and when using stamina potions, it is possible to steal up to 55 artefacts per hour.

If the player is not going to train another skill whilst stealing artefacts (such as glassblowing), this method does not require much inventory space. This makes it a good method to pair with Farming training, which often fills the inventory with a variety of seeds and produce.

Levels 55/95–99: Knights of Ardougne

Using different items, or completing the medium Ardougne Diary tasks will change experience rates.

Pickpocketing Knights of Ardougne is an easier and slightly more profitable, but slower alternative to blackjacking. However, this method is quite slow at lower levels, so players may want to consider using faster methods until around level 80–90 Thieving. Completion of the medium Ardougne Diary is strongly recommended for the increased pickpocket success rate.

Players can gain up to around 60,000 Thieving experience per hour at level 55, increasing to around 105,000 experience per hour at level 70, 150,000 experience per hour at level 80, and 230,000–240,000 experience per hour at level 95. From level 95 onwards the tick-perfect rate is 252,900 Thieving experience per hour, although players are likely to see slightly lower rates when including some mistakes and opening the coin pouches.

Training on Knights of Ardougne requires almost no inventory space to do. This makes it an excellent method to pair with Farming training, which often fills the inventory with a variety of seeds and produce.

For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Farming.

Level 64: Molch Stone Chests

At level 64, the stone chests in the Lizardman Temple under Molch can be lockpicked, granting 280 experience upon success, and respawn almost instantly. It is recommended that players bring a lockpick for increased success rate. Upon failing to loot a chest, there is a 1/8 chance that the player will be teleported to the surface, where they can be attacked and possibly poisoned by lizardmen. Therefore players should also bring some form of antipoison. There are no risks of being attacked while inside the temple, as the lizardmen shamans are behind barriers. If the player is unlucky and gets teleported to the surface repeatedly, they might need to manage their run energy. Therefore graceful set and two super energy(4) potions are recommended. Super energy is recommended as a cheaper alternative to the usual stamina potion, as the run back is short and the run depletion-reduction effect of a stamina potion is likely to be wasted. Lastly, if the player has access to a gem bag, that will grant them additional inventory space.

Players can expect at least 90,000–110,000 Thieving experience per hour using the above items at around level 78 thieving, depending on focus and luck. Stone chests are notable for dropping the untradeable Xeric’s Talisman, lots of Xerician fabric, ruby and sapphires, seeds, and bolt tips (including onyx bolt tips).

Level 78-99: Dorgesh-Kaan Rich chests

Thieving Dorgesh-Kaan Rich Chests is a very fast and relatively easy method to train Thieving. Players can expect 210,000–230,000 Thieving experience per hour.

Players may choose to bring High Level Alchemy for the more valuable drops, and a chisel for the higher level gems to gain some Magic experience, Crafting experience, and coins.

If items are alched while running between chests, the player can expect around 200,000–220,000 Thieving experience per hour, but also gain 12,000–15,000 Magic experience, 5,000–7,000 Crafting experience, and about 100,000 coins (60,000 when accounting for cost of Nature runes).

This extra experience and money is not huge, but is very efficient as it only slightly impacts thieving experience rates.

Levels 91–99: Pyramid Plunder

Pyramid Plunder is not generally recommended for Ultimate Ironman players due to its resource and inventory requirements. Ultimate Ironmen usually opt to train at Pyramid Plunder only to get the Pharaoh’s sceptre for making an ancient or an occult altar in the player-owned house. A second sceptre can be stored in a STASH deep in the pyramid for a master level emote clue. It is, however, one of the fastest methods of training Thieving from level 91 onward.

Players can gain up to 270,000 Thieving experience per hour from level 91 onwards, although with less optimal setups players are more likely to see rates of around 240,000–250,000 experience per hour. Before level 91, players can expect to gain up to 125,000 Thieving experience per hour at levels 71–80, and 190,000 experience per hour at levels 81–90. Higher rates can be achieved by having a duo partner.

Levels 94–99: Master Farmers

At level 94 and with the hard Ardougne Diary completed, players can pickpocket Master Farmers at a 100% success rate. Master Farmers are a decent source of herb seeds for Herblore training, providing up to 70,000 Herblore experience worth of herb seeds per hour when wearing the rogue equipment. Even though Master Farmers become available at level 38, pickpocketing them at lower levels is not recommended, as players will fail very often and will need a lot of food to heal themselves. If the player has not completed the hard Ardougne Diary, wearing the Thieving cape is required for 100% pickpocketing success rate. The Master Farmer north of Ardougne does not benefit from the medium Ardougne Diary bonus, as he is considered to be outside of the city.

The best location to pickpocket a Master Farmer is in the northern part of Hosidius. One can be easily trapped inside the building next to the cow pen. Players who do not have the 100% success rate are advised to pickpocket Master Farmers near a food source for healing. After completion of Children of the Sun, the Master Farmer in the Quetzacalli Gorge is located just north of a bartender with an infinite stock of wine. Players without access to Varlamore can pickpocket the Master Farmer in Draynor Village near Fortunato’s Wine Shop, which also sells cheap wine but requires some world hopping because of its limited stock.

Players can gain up to around 115,000 Thieving experience per hour, assuming they have 100% success rate. At low Thieving, players can only gain up to 20,000–25,000 Thieving experience per hour.
