Calvar’ion is a level 264 skeleton boss. It is the weaker variant of Vet’ion, sharing similar mechanics and drops, but with reduced stats and in a singles-plus area. The medium wilderness diary is required to fight Calvar’ion. If the hard wilderness diary is not completed, there is a 1.8 second teleport delay if attempting to leave the arena.

How to get there

Calvar’ion resides in the Skeletal Tomb, the entrance of which is located north-east of Ferox Enclave in the Graveyard of Shadows. There is a small tombstone where the player may drop into his chambers, requiring a fee of 50,000 coins to enter which can be taken from the bank. This fee decreases by 10,000 for every kill for the player who deals the most damage. The fee is not required again on subsequent trips unless the fee is lost to another player.

To get there quickly, you can:

• Teleport to Graveyard of Shadows with the Carrallanger Teleport or using a teleport tablet.
• Teleport to the Ferox Enclave with the minigame teleport or a ring of dueling.
• Teleport to Corporeal Beast’s Lair with a games necklace (Beware this exits into multi-wilderness).

Attacks and abilities

Calvar’ion has several attacks and abilities identical to Vet’ion:

• Magic attack: Five bolts of lightning strike various tiles across the arena, much like the Grotesque Guardians’ lightning attack. Each lightning bolt deals damage in a 3×3 area, but any tile that is about to be struck glows, giving players the chance to dodge the attack. When soloing, one bolt will always target the player’s tile or an adjacent tile, while four more will target random tiles around the arena. One bolt will appear for every player in the chamber, capped at seven.
• Hellhounds: Upon reaching half health, Calvar’ion will summon two skeletal hellhounds to attack players. They attack with melee, so activate Protect from Melee when they spawn or keep it active during the fight. They will provide him with complete damage immunity while present. He will do the same again in his enraged form.
• Shield Bash: Calvar’ion will raise his shield to bash an area in front or around and underneath him; shadows will appear forewarning the AoE of the attack. If the player doesn’t move out of range, they’ll take up to 26 damage and be unable to attack for the next 4.8 seconds. This attack is only used when in melee distance.
• Enraged Form: Upon losing all health in his first form, Calv’arion will summon orange lightning bolts (which share his standard lightning bolts’ 3×3 area damage) in a circle around him and restore his health to full. In his second form, the hellhound mechanic is repeated, but he will die after losing all of his health in this form.

Strategies

Calvar’ion has the highest defensive capabilities of the three wilderness demi-bosses. However, his negative crush defence of -10 makes him fairly easy to hit.

All of Calvar’ion’s attacks are AoE, meaning that if the player avoids them, they can essentially take no damage from his attacks. Calvar’ion will yell quotes whenever he attacks as a fairly easy and simple way to dodge the attacks. The shield bash is the only major concern due to its larger AoE, but is still otherwise easy to dodge since it is only used in melee distance.

When Calvar’ion reaches 50% of his health, he will summon skeletal hellhounds to assist him in battle. The hellhounds will channel immunity to Calvar’ion until they are killed. While they deal powerful melee hits, they are not durable, with both the normal and greater versions only having 30 health. Calvar’ion will yell a quote about their demise as an indicator that the immunity has been lifted.

When Calvar’ion reaches 0 health in his standard form, he will charge up lightning around him as he yells that the player defeated him a second time. The player can simply stand underneath him to avoid the reach of the lightning as normal. Calvar’ion will restore his health to full and increase his max hit and attack speed and any drained Defence levels will be restored.

Calvar’ion will move towards a player between attacks, so the player can manipulate him into walking towards the exit to his arena and keeping him there for the majority of the time. This is useful for players not relying on a “scout” outside the entrance to his tomb, as it ensures a fast escape, as getting teleblocked and frozen in the middle of the room will likely result in certain death from both the player killer’s and Calvar’ion’s attacks. It is still recommended to leave a secondary account if possible outside, as players cannot hop inside the tomb; and leaving one outside can sometimes cause other players to ignore whoever is inside.

Equipment

Always keep risk to a minimum in the Wilderness! – Whenever gearing, check your Items Kept on Death and enable “Wilderness beyond level 20” to make sure important items will not be lost.

The most effective equipment listed below involves a great deal of Trouver parchments and raw risk, but MOST players will prefer a low-risk setup without parchment loss. Thanks to the powerful Salve (e) effect, as long as you bring a strong weapon and 2-3 other high-bonus items, your DPS will be very good with little risk. For a low-risk setup, a Neitiznot, myth cape, and d’hide/proselyte are perfect, risking less than one average boss kill’s-worth. From there, Barrows gloves then Dragon boots make great upgrades to the Rune gloves and Climbing boots budget setup.

That being said however, due to the incredible passive effect of the Ursine/Viggora’s chainmace stacking multiplicatively with the Salve’s bonus, every extra bit of strength and accuracy bonus from equipment will noticeably increase DPS, provided you are willing to risk more. For example, bringing even just one parched item, the Fighter torso (l) for +4 strength, can grant up to 3 additional max hits. These highly multiplied bonuses, coupled with the fact that it is possible to log out mid-fight here, make Calvar’ion the most feasible and rewarding of all the wilderness bosses to bring additional risk to. To be totally clear, the expensive armour slots are only worth bringing IF players are confident in their ability to escape PKers or teleport out in time.

Lastly, when figuring out your setup, keep in mind that some of these equipment recommendations, such as the Avernic defender and Infernal cape, are meant to maximize 4-item protection. These can easily be downgraded if they would be risked, or if the player is not using PK Skull Prevention. Due to the hazard of being smited and having the Protect Item prayer disabled in combat, untradeable items locked with Trouver parchments are particularly effective as the 4th item kept on death, in order. Again, whenever in doubt, “Items kept on death” will show exactly how items are kept, degraded, or lost.

Note: Due to the Salve bonus not stacking, fighting on a skeleton (or hellhound!) Slayer task with a Slayer helmet will not provide as high of an offensive bonus as the Salve amulet (e) will, and is not free to reclaim like the amulet.

As Calvar’ion is possible to defeat without taking any damage, supplies are mostly tailored to surviving PKers, while maintaining high DPS and possibly absorbing damage taken by accident. When deciding what supplies to bring, keep in mind that Calvar’ion frequently drops large quantities of un-noted blighted food or potions that replace supplies used during the fight.

• Royal seed pod or any other level 30 Wilderness teleport
• Divine super combat/super set
• 3+ prayer potions/super restores
• Saradomin brews with Super restores for emergency food
• Rest food — Monkfish or better (blighted supplies are usually cheapest)
• Looting bag (optional, recommended)

Spindel is a level 302 spider boss that is found in the Web Chasm. The fight with her is nearly identical to Venenatis, although with reduced stats and in a singles-plus combat area. The medium wilderness diary is required to fight Spindel. If the hard wilderness diary is not completed, there is a 1.8 second teleport delay if attempting to leave the arena.

How to get there

Spindel is located in the Web Chasm, which is a lair located in the ruins north of the Graveyard of Shadows in level 29 Wilderness.

• Teleport to Ferox Enclave and run north past Green dragons, or head north-east around the graveyard.
• Use a Revenant cave teleport and run south east. (This will teleport you above 30 wilderness).
• With the Hunter cape, teleport to the Black chinchompas and run south east.
• Take a Canoe to the wilderness pond and run south east.
• A games necklace to teleport to the Corporeal Beast’s lair, exit the cave then run north-west.

Attacks

Spindel has many attacks that she uses against her target.

• Melee attack: She simply lunges at the player. This is the only normal attack she will use if the player is within melee distance.
• Ranged attack: Launches green spit at players
• Magic attack: Launches webs at players
• Sticky Web: Spindel will occasionally deploy a sticky web at a player, sending a white-blue web at the target’s location. It will then expand into a 7×5 AoE – while in this web, any player caught in it will take rapid hits of 3 damage, have their prayer drained by 3, and run energy by 10.
• Spiderlings: Spindel will occasionally call some spiderling to assist her in battle. While fairly weak, they will drain prayer on every hit regardless if prayed against or hits. They will also increase her damage and allow her to hit through prayers if left alive. Thrall damage is reduced while spiderlings are alive.

Overview

Spindel can attack with all three forms of combat. While she will only use one combat style at a time, players in melee distance will instead only be attacked by melee. Like Calvar’ion, she is weakest to crush.

She will begin the fight using 8 range attacks, followed by 8 magic attacks, all while moving position every 4 attacks. She will spawn spiderlings on the 1st range attack in cycle, and deploy her web attack on the 3rd mage attack in the cycle. This pattern will repeat until Spindel is defeated.

Players who enter the arena will appear to the north, so always keep an eye on out for PKers and teleport or run to the exit if needed.

Players should avoid the webs at all costs, as their ability to drain run energy will prevent them from escaping from player killers. The web can be positioned safely by standing on the outskirt of the arena on the 3rd magic attack to help prevent accidentally walking into the web.

The spiderlings should be killed as soon as they spawn to prevent them from empowering her too much; fortunately, they only have 5 health and can be killed in one hit by any combat style.

• Any tier of Chinchompa can eliminate multiple spiderlings with a well-placed shot as well as damage Spindel’s south-west tile, (Ensure PK Skull prevention is activated).
• Darts or Throwing knives can quickly eliminate individual spiderlings.
• Players with 70+ Magic and Ancient Magicks can use a burst spell with Blighted ancient ice sacks to eliminate multiple spiderlings at once.

Equipment

For Spindel, her location in the wilderness should warrant extra precautions. Bring defensive armour, especially against magic attacks from other players, as even with a scout and perfect reactions you can be caught inside the cave. Reduce risk accordingly.

Spindel has a lower defence level compared to her stronger counterpart, Venenatis.

The Ursine chainmace is the strongest weapon against Spindel while costing 5,902,323. The strongest 4 items to bring are generally the Chainmace, your strongest defender, the Amulet of rancour, and your best strength ring (Ultor ring or Berserker ring(i)). A 4th valuable item should be brought if you are confident in not getting Smited by Pkers. Further upgrades are generally very expensive and add little additional damage for their risk and cost. Trouver parchments can be used on certain gear, such as an Infernal cape or Fighter torso, to gain additional strength bonus for additional risk of 1,441,941 each.

Inventory

Inventory setup will vary greatly depending on your gear and team. When deciding what supplies to bring, keep in mind that Spindel frequently drops large quantities of un-noted blighted food or potions that replace supplies used during the fight. Make sure to have the following:

• Grey chinchompas, Darts/Throwing knives, or Blighted ancient ice sacks — kill spiderlings quickly, ordered from fastest to slowest
• Looting bag
• Stamina potion
• Divine/Super combat potion
• Anti-venom/Sanfew serum(s) — cures/prevents venom from player killers.
• Blighted super restores
• Blighted anglerfish for the rest, at least one karambwan(s)

Optional:

• Phoenix necklace — emergency healing whilst tanking
• Saradomin brews — more expensive outlast healing, combo eating with hard food is invaluable
• Royal seed pod — if not bringing a charged amulet of glory or ring of wealth
• Games necklace or Revenant cave teleport to reach the Web Chasm faster.
• Blighted vengeance sacks, Vengeance runes, or runes for thralls and/or death charge – Death charge can be cast off cooldown with frequent minion spawns.
• Divine rune pouch locked with a trouver parchment — if using Arceeus spellbook, allows for more supplies.

The Webweaver and Craw’s bow are both very competitive damage against Spindel despite their higher ranged defences. Ranged also has the luxury of staying closer to the exit in case of pkers, however you need to monitor and change your overhead prayers depending on the attack cycle. The Twisted bow and Bow of faerdhinen are also both strong alternatives to some melee setups. Crossbows generally perform worse than most melee weapons.

Inventory

• Dinh’s bulwark should be set to block in Combat options and equipped if attacked by player killers. If you elect to bring one, ensure you consider your items lost on death interface and turn on Protect item if necessary. You should aim to take 4 valuable items you wish to keep if killed by another player, usually Craw’s bow, Necklace of anguish, Masori armour, and Dinh’s bulwark provide the best balance of damage against Venenatis and survivability against other players.
• Royal seed pod acts as a one-click emergency teleport from up to Level 30 Wilderness
• Super restore potions can be used in place of Blighted super restores
• Anglerfish can be used in place of Blighted anglerfish

How to get there

Entrance to Hunter’s end

• Teleport to Ferox Enclave with a Ring of dueling and run north.
• Teleport to Carrallanger with 84 magic or a teletab and run west.
• Teleport to Corporeal beast with a games necklace and run west. (BEWARE: Directly outside the Corporeal beast cave is Multicombat)

Attacks

• Melee: Artio swipes at the player. This has AoE capabilities and deals massive damage; using Protect from Melee reduces the damage by ~50%.
• Ranged: Artio launches crescent-shaped projectiles at everyone in the den if she cannot attack with melee.
• Knockback: Artio will launch a white orb-like projectile at a targeted player, which will send them flying backwards and inflict damage if Protect from Magic is not activated when the attack visually hits the player.
  • The knockback attack is a single-target attack with splash AOE. This means that it will only target one player, but the spell will affect all players within a 3×3 square of the targeted player when it hits.
  • The damage the player will take from this attack when it hits them off prayer depends on how far the player can be knocked back before they hit an object (the walls of the arena or any bear traps on the floor). The attack will attempt to knock the player back 3 tiles. If the player can be knocked back the full 3 tiles without hitting an object, they will take 5 damage. This scales up by 15 damage for each tile of knockback that cannot be completed, so the player will take 20 damage if they were 2 tiles away from an object they were pushed into, and 35 damage if they were 1 tile away. If the player is directly next to an object that the attack pushes them into, they will take 50 damage.
• Bear Traps: At 66% health, Artio will deploy red, ghostly-like bear traps around the arena. Getting caught in a trap will deal up to 15 damage and briefly bind the player. The traps will be redeployed again at ~33% health and appear afterwards with every attack she makes.

Strategy

Artio will spawn to the south of the den, right in front of the exit. If you wish to avoid player killers, it is recommended to place a secondary account waiting outside the entrance to scout potential threats. All players who enter the den will spawn to the north, similar to Callisto’s lair.

Artio uses highly damaging melee attacks and is weakest to magic and ranged attacks. Ice spells will land often even with minimal magic gear, binding her temporarily. If she cannot attack with melee, she will begin using a much weaker ranged attack until she can reach her target. Artio will occasionally launch a white orb at her target, which should be protected against by switching on Protect from Magic or risk taking up to 50 damage from the attack.

Upon reaching 66 and 33% of her health, Artio will roar, launching bear traps all across the arena. Stepping on one will deal up to 15 damage and bind the player for a few seconds. The traps will linger around for a short duration before expiring, but will immediately be replaced with a fresh set of traps. While roaring, she will also glow red, breaking free of binds in the process and requiring a player to refreeze her.

Setups

Artio can deal incredibly high melee damage through prayer, so melee combat is not advised. Artio is no longer immune to magic damage. Freezing the boss in place is strongly recommended. Binding spells, such as Ice Barrage or Ice Blitz, are commonly used. They are also guaranteed to hit if the player has +0 or higher magic accuracy bonus while Artio is not frozen. Players can use either ranged or magic after freezing the boss. One method involves praying melee and healing with Bloodbark armour and Blood barrage. Players with high Magic and Defence levels will find they are able to heal more with blood barrage than Artio can damage them with melee, making this method very low effort, only requiring occasional eating and drinking prayer potions.

Webweaver is the strongest weapon against Artio. Ideally you want to maximize range damage, while keeping your magic attack bonus at 0 or higher to allow for guaranteed freezes on Artio. Gear like Bloodbark boots, Rune gloves, God cape and Ring of shadows are good to keep your magic bonus high enough, without sacrificing much range dps or incurring high risk. Defence bonus — particularly magic defence — is also beneficial for tanking PKers.

Introduction

Currently, the Wilderness Resource Area looks like it’s from a private server. It is a gated square that has various skilling resources in seemingly convenient spots. No one knows how those precious ores or the exotic trees appeared in this dead wasteland, or who built those tall gates.

We propose that this gated square gets reworked into an underground crater.
You will be descending in this crater with steps or rocks to different layers/levels where different skiling materials can be collected.

The skilling methods will focus mainly on increased resources and profit. They will not offer the fastest experience rates, but the rates will be better than the common low-effort training method will provide. All the resources will be stackable or can be noted, so you’ll have inventory space to bring supplies to combat against player killers.

It also has a unique reward that will aid players in disadvantageous skiller vs PKer situations so that you can actually have fighting chance as a skiller against potential pkers. Or to compete over valuable skilling resources and drive other players away that are mining “your” rocks. 

Atmosphere I had in mind for the Grove’s lower level

Lore & explanation

The area that is now known as the Wilderness was formerly known as Forinthry. 

It was a lush and green land by the time Gielinor was discovered by Guthix. 

Forinthry was very rich in resources, however the massive explosion caused by Zamorak in the last years of the God Wars is what turned Forinthry into the wasteland we know today. 

This Grove was heavily damaged from the explosion but some life was preserved, and over the centuries, life started to flourish once more in this secluded part of the wilderness. 

At the edge of the Grove are some signs of life, a couple rocks, some grass and a few struggling trees. After carefully descending down, halfway down the crater around the edge are large platforms (first level) that are big enough for players to walk around on and mine in openings in the wall that are full of all kinds of special minerals. 

The bottom level is a densely overgrown place with a lava and water lake, tall grass with black and red chinchompas, a superior magic tree and an ancient furnace.

A handy entrance fee

The Witch’s Note is a new item bought from Krystilia for 100k. It would be required to have on you to descend down into the Grove. While within the Grove, you can use resources you’ve collected on it to note those items, much like Trailblazer League’s Banker’s Note. However, the Witch’s Note always drops on death and can be sold back to Krystilia for 90% of its initial price. The item would be inside the loot key if player killer has those enabled.

Much like the Revenant Caves entrance fee, the Witch’s Note guarantees a minimal amount of risk for those taking advantage of the Grove’s resources but also provides the skiller a convenient, seamless experience.

The skilling methods

Mining & Smithing

In the walls of the higher level/outer ring are mining spots with a new way of mining the ores that we all know and love. Mining these special rocks will require 85 mining and yield ‘Fragments’. More specifically runite and adamant fragments. These rocks would be oldschool style rocks with success rates similar to iron rocks. So the mining feels quick and responsive.

All the rocks would provide both runite and adamant fragments. The chance to receive runite fragments would scale with the player’s mining level to have a 40% chance at level 85 and  50% chance for runite at level 99.  The runite and adamant fragments would be stackable and give 45 and 30 xp per fragment mined respectively and need 8 runite and 6 adamant fragments to smelt them into their respective bar at the lava-powered furnace at the bottom of the grove.

This lava-powered furnace does not require additional coal ores and is twice as fast to smelt bars compared to regular furnaces. The fragments themselves are tradable so players can also choose to buy the fragments from other players and smelt them at the furnace for solid profit and xp.  Players can note the bars (and other resources) with the ‘The Witch’s Note’.

Fishing  

Outside of mining, all the other skilling activities will be at the bottom of the grove.

On one side of the bottom there is a lava lake that powers the furnace but also has Giant infernal eels living in it. You can fish them with level 80 fishing just like in Mor Ul Rek but these ones give slightly more xp and 10x the amount of lava scale shards and onyx bolt tips compared to the normal variant in Tzhaar place, the Giant infernal eels provide no tokkul however.

On the other side there is a water lake that would still have dark crabs requiring level 85 fishing. The standard catch rates are further improved to be 70% at level 99, but with reduced xp per crab. The Elite diary would give a 50% chance for double crabs per successful fishing action without providing additional xp.

Dark crabs would be the higher xp/h option, meanwhile Giant infernal eels would focus more on gp/h.

Woodcutting

A huge superior magic tree stands tall in the middle of the area. This tree will function similarly to a redwood tree in that you can only chop a hole in it and not fully down. 

It has a greatly increased chop chance compared to regular magic trees (20% at level 99 with a dragon axe) and a 50% chance for double logs after completing the hard diary without additional xp. 

Upon depleting a side of the tree, all players interacting with that spot will have a chance of receiving 1-2 magic roots for some extra profit. They would fall to the floor if their inventory is full.

Chopping magic logs from the great magic tree would provide xp rates slightly higher than suliuscep mushrooms, up to 110k/h with a 2h dragon axe at level 99. 

Hunter

Around the magic tree in the tall grass lives a thriving population of black and red chins together. These chins would have a 75% chance to give double loot (no double xp)

There would be more spawns compared to other chins spots but it would not be better xp/h than the other black chin spot considering you will be catching red chins too.
Ideally it would be that you catch black/red chins in a 1/1 ratio.

With 700 catches per hour and 75% double chins this would be around 25% more profitable than regular black chinchompas but ~10% less xp/h
Maybe you build a crate somewhere under a tree where you can collect infinite box traps from, so you can bring more supplies with you.

Rewards

Outside of the xp and skilling resources there will also be a new item that you can obtain from the different skilling methods in the Wilderness Grove.

Upon successfully obtaining a resource from any of the activities listed above, you have a small chance to find an ‘ancient metal shard’ and “metal ring halves. It will drop to the floor if the player has a full inventory. These shards would be stackable.

The Holy Pendant

Upon collecting 4 of these ancient metal shards you can forge them together at the lava-powered furnace at the bottom of the grove to create a ‘Holy pendant’. This furnace is actually an old machine built by Saradomin forces back when they had conquered Annakarl and its surroundings during the God Wars and used this furnace to create this Holy pendant to combat the ancient magicks of the Mahjarrat.

Both the metal shards as well as the pendant would be tradable.
The Holy Pendant is worn in the amulet slot and has similar defensive stats and prayer bonus to an amulet of fury but no offensive bonuses. 

However, having the Holy pendant equipped when you are being frozen or entangled, it will activate and provide you with great power. For the duration of the freeze/entangle your attacks with all 3 attack styles will be 15% more accurate and have 10% increased damage against other players. This would create an interesting dynamic in PvP fights and will give Skillers and PvMers a better opportunity to fight back against potential PKers.

The pendant would convert to x amount of coins on death.

Zaros’ key ring

Similar to the metal pieces of the pendant you will also be able to find metal ring halves during every skilling activity. 

With 2 halves and a silver bar you can smith a new key ring that holds up to 5 (or more?) loot keys in 1 inventory slot.

The ring halves would be stackable.

Both the ring halves as well as the ring would be tradable.

The key ring would convert to x amount coins on death. Any keys on it would be transferred to the killer’s key ring. Any remaining keys that go over the cap of x will be treated the same way as it currently works.

Technical stuff

Optional: All Singles-plus areas and new PJ timers would be reverted to the old mechanics past the deep wilderness fence.

The Wilderness Grove would be single combat and located in deep wilderness, level 47 – 52. However, some of the exits and entrances are in multi combat or right on the edge.

Ways of entering & exiting

There would be multiple ways to enter and exit the grove.

• Stairs or rock climbs down to the mining place on the first level that would then lead down to the bottom with another set of stairs.
• Long rope to get from the surface down to the bottom in one go and back up again. This would require access to darkmeyer to buy the long rope and then attach it. Using this would require a fairly high agility level.
• Cave exit only from the bottom floor to the outside in one go. this will put you on the other side of the fence of the deep wilderness south of the grove, right from the spider hill.

When a player logs out in the area they will be upstairs at the stairs or rope again.

Clue & Achievement diary steps

Currently there are four clue steps that involve the wilderness resource area

• A coordinate clue to dig inside the gates. This can easily be relocated and put just outside the grove’s entrance.
  
• Mandrith, the current NPC guarding the gate, has 2 anagram steps. with the addition of the wilderness grove this NPC will likely cease to exist. We could simply remove the clue steps or add a new npc that fits in lore wise. For example: a druid like NPC, looking after this secrate piece of wilderness. 

• Piles, the noting NPC has a master cryptic clue step. This would go to the new npc just like Mandrith or be removed.

Achievement diary steps will remain as normal, except for the rune scimitar step. This would now be to mine 16 runite fragments and smelt the bars from that instead of killing two runite golems for the ores.

New diary Rewards

Hard diary: 50% chance to receive double magic logs from the great magic tree, no additional xp.

Elite diary: 50% chance to fish double dark crabs, no additional xp.

The old increased catch rate on dark crabs would be replaced by this since the crabs now have an improved rate as base rate.

The 75% more chinchompas could also be locked behind the hard diary but we are not sure about that yet.
