Introducing Old School LANscape – OSRS

Introducing Old School LANscape

12 Creators, lots of challenges, and a Twitch chat with far too much power…

Introducing Old School LANscape

Join us on Saturday, September 5th as we bring some of your favourite Old School creators and J-Mods together in London for LANscape, a live creator LAN party in collaboration with and hosted by Soup and J1mmy. This will include in-game competitions, IRL challenges, questionable decision-making, and you watching at home with the voting power to make everything considerably more chaotic.

LANscape will be streamed live from  to  on the official Old School Twitch channel, with many of the participating creators also broadcasting their own perspectives live throughout the event.

Thank you to The Skulled for making this video!

What is LANscape?

Rather than a polished esports tournament, LANscape aims for something much more relaxed, silly and community-focused. Think ‘Old School-themed LAN party at your mate’s house’ kinda vibe, except your mate has somehow convinced a load of OSRS creators to compete for points while thousands of people on Twitch get to decide how much worse or amusing their day becomes…

Creators will compete in teams across a mixture of in-game and IRL challenges, earning points based on where they finish in each round.

At the end of the event, those points will feed into a final PvP showdown, where one team will be crowned the first-ever LANscape champions and lift the Trophy of LAN, an artefact of immeasurable prestige and immense craftsmanship that may or may not have been found in the back of a cupboard at Jagex HQ.

The Trophy of LAN

So, why are we doing this? Old School has always been about more than what happens in-game. It’s also about the people you meet, the friendships you make, and the communities that grow around it. LANscape is a chance to celebrate that by bringing creators and their communities together for something players at home can enjoy and help shape as it happens.

We want the day to feel like one big Old School get-together! Familiar faces being themselves, teammates cheering each other on, and carefully laid plans falling apart. Above all, we hope LANscape will be a fun, memorable day that celebrates the people who make Old School what it is and makes everyone watching feel part of it.

What Kind of Challenges Can We Expect?

The creators will face challenges designed to test their Old School knowledge, PvM and PvP skills, teamwork and their unique ability to retain some ounce of dignity under pressure.

All in-game activities will take place on a special event world, allowing us to make a few changes that would be deeply irresponsible anywhere near the main game.

This includes:

  • A team tileman challenge where teams must complete objectives while crossing as few tiles as possible.
  • A chaotic boss relay, featuring familiar bosses… though one or two may catch you off guard!
  • A barrage race across Gielinor, with obstacles and characters attempting to slow competitors down.
  • A classic Old School hide & seek game.
  • A final PvP showdown, where points earned earlier in the day could help teams purchase upgrades.

We’re also developing a few custom tools and mechanics that will let participants interfere at exactly the wrong moment, the timing of which will be decided by all of you at home as to exactly who and when they can use these tools.

IRL Challenges

Not everything will take place inside Gielinor!

We’re also looking at a range of IRL challenges inspired by Old School skills, activities and minigames, including:

  • Building and launching Gnome gliders.
  • Giant Jenga.
  • Cup-stacking competitions.
  • Ranged-inspired carnival games.

Some challenges will reward skill, while others will mostly reward the ability to remain calm while your teammates likely shout loud, conflicting instructions at you…

Twitch Chat Chooses Their Fate

We are also making the very informed and responsible decision to give Twitch chat power, and we are highly confident nothing could go wrong with this decision.

Throughout the stream, chat will be able to vote on handicaps, sabotages and other twists affecting individual creators or entire teams. That could mean splitting the mouse and keyboard between two teammates, forcing someone to play with their non-dominant hand, or taking away their F-keys at the most inconvenient moment. You in the chat will decide who gets sabotaged.

Choose How You Watch

The official broadcast will follow the overall competition, hosted by Soup and J1mmy, with live commentary, creator interviews, community interaction and coverage from around the venue at twitch.tv/oldschoolrs.

Some participating creators may also stream their own perspectives, meaning you’ll be able to follow the main show or watch the day unfold directly through your favourite creator’s channel.

We’ll reveal all four teams throughout the rest of this week, so keep an eye on our socials for the full lineup!

Will game knowledge carry a team to victory? Will strong PvMers dominate the in-game challenges? Will a carefully planned strategy be destroyed by Twitch chat in less than thirty seconds? There’s only one way to find out!

Join us live on  until  for LANscape.

We’ll see you there!
