PvP Bootcamp – Event by Katerena – OSRS

PvP Bootcamp Event by Katerena

Curious about PvP in Old School RuneScape? It can be a little intimidating to get into, but with the right mentality and proper training, anyone can do it… Right?

Well, that’s exactly what our very own community creator Katerena is hoping to prove over the next few weeks. From August 16th to September 26th, she’s bringing together a group of creators for a PvP Bootcamp!

With the help of some of the most experienced and loved PvP creators, Katerena will turn 10 noobs into the most fearsome PKers in the game. Or at least, that’s the dream. Each week, they’ll train up a specific PvP fundamental before putting their newfound skills to the test in a series of challenges.

It’s fair to say that experience levels across the group vary quite significantly. Some of these creators have a little PvP knowledge already and others are stepping in for the very first time. Whatever their starting point, they’ve all got something to learn. How exciting!

So, if you’re looking for your next binge-watch, feel free to tune in: cheer them on, pick up a few tricks yourself, or simply witness the inevitable chaos when you pair a group of noobs up with PvP veterans.

At the end of the day, this event is focused on the fun side of PvP, while making the skill gap a little less intimidating. If they can do it, so can you.

It’s time to get training!

Supporting the Community

For Katerena, this PvP Bootcamp event has been an idea years in the making. After watching events like Deadman, she wanted to make PvP more accessible for the average player and thus, PvP Bootcamp was created. Her goal isn’t to turn every recruit into a PvP pro. If they leave Bootcamp knowing a little bit more about PvP and feeling more confident, we’d call that a win. That goes for those of you watching at home, too!

PvP has a reputation for having one of the steepest learning curves in Old School, and we know taking those first steps can feel daunting. This event is your opportunity to watch the process unfold from the beginning and witness the highs, the lows, the victories, and the inevitable “sits”.

This event is all about making PvP feel a little more approachable and reminding everyone that even the best PKers had to start somewhere. Plus, later this year, Pete Kayer will be bringing his series of PvP challenges to the game, and we hope to inspire some of you to give it a go yourself!

A huge thank you to Katerena for putting the event together, to all the coaches lending their expertise, and to every recruit brave enough to step into the Wilderness and learn something new.

Tune In Live

Ready to join the Bootcamp? The action kicks off on August 16th, with training sessions and challenges taking place across several weeks before the grand finale on September 26th.

Katerena will be streaming every Bootcamp session live on her channel, so that’s your best place to follow the action from start to finish. Many of the creators taking part will also be streaming their own perspectives, so you’ll have plenty of channels to choose from and we’ll link their channels below.

You can also find Katerena on Kick and YouTube.

With recruits and guest creators joining from across the globe, sessions have been spread across different times to give those in Europe, North America and Australia a chance to get involved. It also means those of you at home can pick the best days and times for you!

This event will also have its own dedicated world, opening on the 13th August and closing on 28th September. The world will be available to anyone attending the event as a creator or recruit, as a space to practice and take on these challenges without too much disruption. Occasionally, the creators may venture into the Wilderness to put their skills into practice, so keep your eyes peeled.

Meet the Recruits

Katerena will be joined by 10 creators throughout the event, each bringing a different level of PvP experience to the table. Some of them have already dipped their toes into the Wilderness, while others will be learning many of these mechanics for the very first time.

You may already be familiar with these creators if you’re a fan of the Twitch or YouTube scene in Old School:

There’s another familiar face joining the recruits! Mod Light (Senior Community Manager) will also take part in a few of the sessions on the Bootcamp using a personal account. As a Community Manager for Old School, the opportunity to learn how to murder players was too good of an opportunity to pass up, sorry.

Each coach really brings a unique perspective, with experience and expertise covered across multiple PvP styles.

We’re sure they’ll all be patient and understanding with our recruits. Maybe.

Challenges

There’s plenty to learn before we let the recruits loose in the Wilderness! Throughout the Bootcamp, they’ll be getting to grips with everything from freeze logging and walking under opponents to tanking, prayer switching, spec timings, useful plugins, tick eating and plenty more. But there’s only so much you can learn before you’ve got to put those skills to the test!

That’s where challenges come in. Katerena has planned a variety of PvP challenges throughout the Bootcamp, giving the recruits a chance to put what they’ve learned into practice alongside (and against) their coaches.

From Scratch

The recruits will be split into two teams, with two coaches joining each side as captains. Both teams will start completely from scratch before heading into the real Wilderness on live worlds. They have two hours to make as much money as possible through multi-PKing, using whatever they can earn along the way to build up their supplies and eventually buy gear.

Once the two hours are up, whatever they have earned is what they’ll go to battle with. The last team standing takes it.

We hope somebody remembers the food…

Wilderness Boss Challenge

Bossing is difficult enough at the best of times, but it gets considerably harder when somebody in max PKing gear is also hunting you!

Two of the coaches will choose two multi-combat Wilderness bosses (e.g. Callisto or Venenatis). The recruits are split into two teams, with one coach on each team.

Each team gets one hour at their first boss to rack up as much boss KC as possible. After the hour is up, the teams will swap bosses and go again.

The coaches on each team can spawn in max PKing gear and head over to disrupt the opposing team. Recruits will have to keep the boss kills coming while watching their backs and working together to anti-PK anyone trying to take them down!

If any coach dies, they will receive a five-minute timeout before being allowed to respawn with their full setup and start causing trouble again…

Once both rounds are complete, the team with the highest combined boss KC wins.

Protect the King

Two PvP creators will each captain a team and take on the role of the King. Their mission? Stay alive. The recruits, meanwhile, have two jobs: protect their own King and eliminate the King on the opposing team.

There’s just one catch: the Kings can’t fight. They can run, eat and tank incoming damage, but their survival is entirely in the hands of their team.

These are just the challenges Katerena is willing to tell us about! The rest will remain under wraps for now, so you’ll have to tune in to find out what else she has planned…

Good luck, recruits! We’ll see you in the Wildy…
