It’s time to cough up that Platinum because today we’re releasing our Beyond Max Cash update!
The Grand Exchange has long been a fundamental part of Old School’s economy, and one of the biggest benefits (aside from being able to get your hands on all those tradeable items without doing the grind) is how every sale is done conveniently, safely and with an accurate representation of the item’s value. Up to a maximum offer of 2,147,483,647gp, that is.
So, when it’s come to the highest value items, you’d need to track down a seller through third-party websites, trust you’re getting a good deal and then meeting face to face to make the trade. A bit of a hassle, really.
Well as of today we’re making that process super simple. You’ll now be able to buy and sell items beyond the old 2.147b cap using a combination of Coins and Platinum tokens! Just pop your offer in and let the GE bankers do all the work for you.
- Put your offer in at the GE as usual, with the ability to input higher than the max cash limit of 2.147b!
- When the offer completes, your payment will automatically be taken as usual, using whatever combination of coins and platinum that works best. This might mean you’ll get some coins back for platinum used – GE bankers don’t keep the change!
- This will apply to all trades, not just those over max cash, depending on what you have in your inventory!
- If you’re making an offer that you don’t have the currency for in your inventory and the system needs to pull from the bank, there’s a chance it may shuffle quantities of coins and platinum to get what it needs. There may also be cases where the system will turn platinum into coins in whichever inventory it’s taking from but it’ll try to prioritise taking coins for offers below max, but that won’t always be the case. A way to be sure is to withdraw coins and have what you need in your inventory to avoid anything getting shuffled.
- All item stacks, including coins, are still capped at 2.147b.
- Instead, the GE itself now supports higher-value trades using both Coins and Platinum tokens, where required.
- This means the system is effectively capped at about 2.149 trillion GP with combined currency holdings (2.147b Coins + 2.147b Platinum), which should cover even the most ambitious bank values – at least for the foreseeable!
- Existing trade restrictions, such as buy limits, remain unchanged.
- GE tax still applies, meaning these high-value trades will continue to contribute to the game’s gold sinks, helping keep our game’s economy nice and healthy long term.
- Note: Tax is still capped at a maximum of 5 million coins per item, as standard.
- Many interfaces across the game now support displaying item values over 2.147b. The notable exceptions to this are loot tracker and ground items.
- Plus, we’re implementing more responsive guide prices to better reflect current market conditions day-to-day, and they will update by a higher maximum! We’re changing the max a guide price can change by from 5% to 20%, with this price updating every 3 hours instead of every 24 hours. Lower volume items will be updated more too, previously they didn’t reach a trade volume threshold.
- We’ve also added a handy new icon to represent exactly what you’re receiving.
We hope that bringing these trades back into the GE provides the following:
- A safer experience – players no longer have to rely on potential scam in-person trades or go through any potentially dodgy external websites.
- Better price transparency – trades conducted through the GE provide clearer signals about the true value of rare items.
- Greater gold sinking – keeping the game and economy nice and healthy by applying the GE tax to these trades.
- Future-proofing – items from new content can be sold immediately at a player’s convenience.
So there you have it, we’ve officially gone beyond max cash! Go on, get yourself that 3rd Age Pickaxe, treat yourself.
